Tras los Muros 2019 is a sublime white wine from Pazo de Señorans made exclusively with Albariño grapes cultivated in the vineyards closest to the winery, within the estate. This exceptional white owes its name to this origin, featuring a meticulous aging process of 6 months in French oak barrels, an additional 6 months in tank, and a further 15 months of bottle aging before being released to the market. A gem to enjoy now or to keep for the next 5 years.

Tras los Muros 2019 is a magnificent white wine made entirely from Albariño grapes grown on trellises very close to the sea. Born in a purely Atlantic climate, this new creation from Pazo de Señorans is an intense, flavorful, fresh wine with a certain complexity.

Pazo de Señorans is a project initiated by the couple Marisol Bueno and Javier Mereque in 1989. The winery has 14 hectares of its own vineyards, 8.5 of which are dedicated to Albariño grapes. Additionally, it is equipped with the most modern facilities and technical equipment, including a maturation room with 25 French and Caucasian oak barrels. These features, along with their mastery in winemaking, make this winery one of the benchmark producers in Galicia.

This magnificent white wine, under the designation of origin D.O. Rías Baixas, is born from traditional agriculture that includes the manual harvesting of the grapes after ripening. It is produced through the alcoholic fermentation of Albariño grapes in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Subsequently, the wine rests for 6 months in French oak barrels and an additional 6 months in tanks. Afterward, it is bottled and marketed 15 months later.

With very limited production, Tras los Muros 2019 pairs ideally with seafood rice dishes, white meats, roasted poultry, and white fish.

Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow color.

On the nose, aromas of white fruit (water pear), nectarine, apple, and a citrus hint (lime) appear. Later, as it opens up, its notes of licorice and mint are surprising.

On the palate, its acidity, perfect bitterness, and very well-integrated barrel stand out.

The winery

Pazo de Señorans

Pazo de Señorans (1989) is an essential winery to understand the evolution and rise of the D.O. Rías Baixas over the last 25 years. Marisol Bueno (its creator and for more than twenty years at the helm of the Regulatory Council of the D.O.) was a pioneer in revealing the great results achieved with the aging of albariño in stainless steel tanks. Thus, their white Pazo Señorans Selección de Añada set a milestone, creating a new winemaking style: a long-lived, expressive, and complex albariño, and managed to place it among the top spots in global rankings.

Located in the Valle del Salnés (D.O. Rías Baixas), what began as a small wine-growing operation comprising the pazo and 10 hectares of vineyard has become a benchmark winery with an annual production of 450,000 bottles. The albariños from Pazo Señorans are in the top tier of Spanish whites. In the Winery of the Month, we feature the three wines produced by the brand: the aforementioned Selección de Añada, which is the flagship; the young albariño of the year; and the latest novelty: Pazo Señorans Colección 2011, a version of the young albariño but aged in the bottle at the winery itself.
