Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2022 is considered the younger sibling of the prestigious Sassicaia. Since its first vintage in the year 2000, this red wine is born from a vineyard caressed by the sea breeze and surrounded by the small hills that encircle Tenuta San Guido. This balanced coupage of cabernet sauvignon and merlot, with enveloping notes of forest fruits and spicy and Mediterranean touches, is an elegant Tuscan wine in the purest Bordeaux style.

General Information

Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2022 is a Tuscan red wine born from young vineyards with cabernet sauvignon and merlot vines planted at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters with a south-southwest orientation, on soils of great diversity where limestone rich in marl and partially clayey stones stand out. These characteristics of the Tenuta San Guido terroir are expressed unequivocally in a delicious, luscious, and enveloping red wine.

Tenuta San Guido is a winery owned by the Incisa della Rocchetta family, which has 2500 hectares of land in La Maremma, between Tuscany and Lazio. Today, the winery is one of the greatest representatives of Italian winemaking, probably due to the success of the great wine Sassicaia. An elegant and very special red wine with a style similar to the great Bordeaux wines, which was initially intended for family consumption.

To produce Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2022, the best grapes were selected manually at the winery. The resulting must was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26-28ºC for around 15 days. The resulting wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 15 months, followed by bottling to round off for an additional 3 months before being marketed. A wine produced from younger vines, following the same production phases as its elder sibling, the prestigious Sassicaia. Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto is a barrel-aged red wine in the Bordeaux style, ideal for pairing with roasted red meats, game birds, and stewed lamb.

Tasting notes

On the eye, Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto displays a clean and bright ruby red color.

On the nose, it stands out for its intense aromas of black and red fruits (plum, currant…), black spices, tobacco, earthy notes, and saline and Mediterranean touches.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied and precise. With a polished and elegant mouthfeel, silky palate, and juicy tannins. Mineral sensations, with a long and persistent finish.

The winery

Tenuta San Guido

The impressive Tenuta San Guido estate is located in Bolgheri (Livorno, Tuscany). It spans 2,500 hectares, 75 of which are occupied by vineyards exclusively dedicated to the production of Sassicaia, one of Italy's most important wines. A vineyard so exceptional that it has earned its own designation, the only Italian designation entirely included within a single property.

The origins of Sassicaia wine date back to the 1940s. Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta dreamed of creating a wine in the style of the great Bordeaux wines. He found similarities between the soils of the Graves region (Bordeaux) and those of the Tenuta San Guido estate, an area at the time without a winemaking tradition. Convinced of its good adaptation, he imported cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc vines. Time proved him right, as the cabernet sauvignon delivered extraordinary results.

In 1944, he produced the first bottles of Sassicaia, intended for family consumption. The first commercial vintage was 1968. In the following years, the winery replaced wooden vats with stainless steel tanks with temperature control for fermentation and introduced French oak barrels for aging.
