The debut of Teófilo Reyes was as brilliant as it was unexpected. His first wine, a Crianza from the 1994 vintage, made history by becoming the first Spanish red to enter the coveted top 10 of Wine Spectator magazine. That recognition marked the beginning of a journey that today, thanks to a new chapter, shines brightly once again. Tamiz 2024 is a single-varietal wine made from grapes sourced from 34 hectares of vineyards located in Peñafiel, Manzanillo, and Olmos de Peñafiel, in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
The vines, planted between 750 and 920 meters above sea level, produce high-quality fruit, carefully hand-harvested. Aging in French oak provides structure and elegance, rounding out a wine that keeps alive the essence of the winery's early successes.
Founded in 1994 by Juan José and Luis Reyes, with the technical direction of their father Teófilo—an industry veteran with more than half a century among vineyards—the winery left an indelible mark from its very first release. Today, under the leadership of Zuazo Gastón, the brand has regained its character and is once again a benchmark.
Tamiz 2024 is a tribute to the greatness of Tempranillo, Spain's queen variety. With six months of aging in French oak, it stands out as an irresistible option, especially for its excellent quality-to-price ratio. Ideal for pairing with lamb chops grilled over vine shoots or roasted suckling pig, it is a wine that invites celebration.
Bodegas Teófilo Reyes was founded in 1994 by Juan José and Luis Reyes under the technical direction of their father Teófilo, who had over 50 years of experience working among vines. The debut of the winery could not have been more impactful, as its first red wine, Teófilo Reyes Crianza 1994, was the first Spanish wine included among the top ten in the world in Wine Spectator tastings. Despite this, the trajectory of the winery was not as brilliant as expected, and for some years now, the wines of Teófilo Reyes have been brought to market under the direction of Zuazo Gastón Bodegas y Viñedos, which has managed to make this iconic brand shine once again as it did in the past.
The winery has 60 hectares of its own vineyards in the municipalities of Peñafiel, Manzanillo, and Olmos de Peñafiel, in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
