Bodegas Teófilo Reyes made its debut in the wine world in grand style: its first red, a Crianza from the 1994 vintage, was the first Spanish wine ever to be listed among Wine Spectator magazine’s top ten. This brilliant start earned the brand huge prestige, which it has now recovered. Tamiz 2023 is a single-varietal made from Tempranillo grapes grown on the 34 hectares of vines the firm owns in the districts of Peñafiel, Manzanillo and Olmos de Peñafiel in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
The vines, cultivated at a high altitude of between 750 and 920 metres, yield top-quality grapes and are harvested by hand. A six-month period in French oak barrels has rounded off a wine that is continuing along the same successful lines as the winery’s early years.
Bodegas Teófilo Reyes was founded in 1994 by Juan José and Luis Reyes under the technical direction of their father Teófilo, who had been working with vines for more than 50 years. The winery couldn’t have got off to a more impressive start, as its first red, Teófilo Reyes Crianza 1994, was the first Spanish wine to be included among the top ten in the world in Wine Spectator’s tastings. For the past few years Teófilo Reyes’s wines have been marketed under the direction of Zuazo Gastón Bodegas y Viñedos, which has restored this legendary brand’s initial lustre.
Tamiz 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is perfect with stewed lentils with pork ribs or meat dishes such as pork fillet roasted with red fruits.
Cherry-red, clean appearance with violet hues in the rim. Intense nose of red forest fruits and aromas of vanilla from the nicely integrated notes of wood. Round on the palate with ripe tannins echoing the aromas found in the nose, enhanced with resiny flavours, silky-smooth.
Bodegas Teófilo Reyes was founded in 1994 by Juan José and Luis Reyes under the technical direction of their father Teófilo, who had over 50 years of experience working among vines. The debut of the winery could not have been more impactful, as its first red wine, Teófilo Reyes Crianza 1994, was the first Spanish wine included among the top ten in the world in Wine Spectator tastings. Despite this, the trajectory of the winery was not as brilliant as expected, and for some years now, the wines of Teófilo Reyes have been brought to market under the direction of Zuazo Gastón Bodegas y Viñedos, which has managed to make this iconic brand shine once again as it did in the past.
The winery has 60 hectares of its own vineyards in the municipalities of Peñafiel, Manzanillo, and Olmos de Peñafiel, in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
