Located in Ribera del Duero’s golden mile, between Padilla de Duero and Peñafiel (Valladolid), Tamaral is a family-run winery that puts into practice the philosophy of effort, unhurried work and careful selection of the best terroirs. Its main asset is the estate it owns in Pesquere de Duero, on a plain at more than 900 metres above sea level, which produces premium wines such as Tamaral Vendimia Seleccionada 2023, a Tempranillo that’s been barrel aged for 6 months.

General Information

Tamaral Vendimia Seleccionada 2023 is made wholly from Tempranillo grapes picked from vines that grow in Pesquera de Duero at an altitude of more than 900 metres. This marvellous estate owned by the winery has stony and lime soils that produce limited yields of no more than 5,500 kg/hectare. According to the regulatory board of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, the 2023 vintage produced complex reds with good structure characterised by their intense aromas.

As its name indicates (‘selecteded harvest’), the best bunches and grapes were chosen to make this red and were picked by hand. A traditional vinification process was employed at the winery, with fermentation and maceration in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 26ºC. The wine was finally aged for 6 months in French and American oak barrels.

In 1985 a couple from Zamora, Ricardo Santiago and Carmen Torío, embarked on a research project together with a group of friends, several of them agricultural engineers, which materialised two years later in the founding of Bodegas y Viñedos Tamaral in Peñafiel in the heart of the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero. The winery produces wines in moderate quantities, always giving preference to quality. It employs traditional agricultural techniques and cutting-edge equipment; and to make its wines it combines different types of vessels: stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats.

Its Tempranillo vines are between 30 and 100 years old and are situated between Peñafiel, Castrillo del Duero and Pesquera. The Pesquera de Duero estate is its greatest asset: located on a plain at 900 metres above sea level, with different types of soils. Thanks to its altitude it benefits from a broader range of temperature variations, both seasonal and between night and day. The former kind are conducive to a good annual growth cycle of the vines and the latter to the ripening of the polyphenols, the development of aromas and a greater acidic balance in the berries.

Tamaral Vendimia Seleccionada 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with roast and char-grilled meats, vegetables and pulses.

Creators' opinion

Displays an attractive ruby-red colour and medium-high pigmentation. Intense nose with good complexity, aromas of red fruit (redcurrants), liquorice and other spicy notes from barrel ageing. Mouth-coating and potent yet elegant palate with smooth, ripe tannins and a long finish.
