Sem Vergonha 2019 is a single-variety castelão that, due to its structure and balance, without losing elegance and finesse, undoubtedly reminds one of Burgundy wines. A "shameless" castelão produced by Susana Esteban with the collaboration of Dirk Niepoort.

Sem Vergonha 2019 is a single-varietal castelão aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The castelão variety has been compared to the French pinot noir for its ability to produce structured and complex wines without losing its delicacy and freshness. Traits that undoubtedly resemble the wines of Burgundy. Sem Vergonha is a red wine from Alentejo produced by Susana Esteban in association with the current owner of Niepoort, Dirk Niepoort. A wine that embodies the winery's philosophy, based on the use of native varieties, without blending parcels, to achieve the greatest expression of the terroir and the typicity of each grape.
Susana Esteban began her Portuguese project in 2009 with the acquisition of two plots of old vineyards near Ébora. The result obtained propelled the search for more unique vineyards that would allow the production of wines with their own personality. The success of this Galician-born winemaker reached its peak in 2011 when she was recognized as Winemaker of the Year in Portugal by Revista de Vinhos. One of the most prestigious awards in the sector in our neighboring country.
Sem Vergonha 2019 (D.O. Alentejo) pairs very well with spiced grilled meats, game dishes, and all kinds of cheeses.
It has a beautiful cherry red color.
On the nose, intense aromas of red fruits stand out, predominantly cherry.
The wood is perfectly integrated both on the nose and on the palate, where it is balanced, elegant, and with a soft tannin. Its finish is long and delicious.
Born in Tuy (Pontevedra), Susana Esteban holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a master's degree in Enology from the University of La Rioja. She began working as an enologist at Quinta do Côtto (Douro) in 1999, and in 2002 she moved to Quinta do Crasto, where she worked as an enologist until 2007.
A consultant for various wineries in Alentejo (Portugal), at the end of 2009 Susana decided to embark on her personal project, with the determination to produce wines full of character and with a unique style slightly removed from the traditional techniques of Alentejo. In 2011, she discovered two small vineyards that laid the foundation for her two wines: In Portalegre, she found an old mixed plantation of several different varieties, with very low yields, providing an astonishing complexity and freshness. By blending these two vineyards, she managed to create "Procura."
Susana Esteban has joined forces with her good friend and fellow enologist Sandra Tavares to craft wines together. The first wine that emerged from the Esteban&Tavares partnership was the red Crochet, and more recently, in 2014, they launched Tricot, made in Susana Esteban's winery in Alentejo.
