The 2023 harvest yielded red grapes with very intense aromas, as can be appreciated in Raimat Vol d’Anima Rosado 2023, an exquisite single-varietal made from Garnacha. The grapes were picked at night to take advantage of the very low temperatures, working quickly to preserve the primary aromas. Only the first – free-run – must was used in order to guarantee the variety’s characteristic elegance and avoid excessive tannin extraction.
Raimat is a big name. For a time this century-old firm (1918) was the driving force behind the Raventós Codorníu group. It’s also the promotor and the most important winery of the D.O. Costers del Segre (Lleida), where it was bold enough to plant vines in an almost desert-like spot. Today it owns 3,000 hectares. It’s also famous for being a pioneer in Spain in cultivating French grapes and is up among the elite of Cabernet Sauvignon, as Raimat produces some of the finest reds in the country made from this variety.
Raimat Vol d'Anima Rosado 2023 (D.O. Costers del Segre) is perfect with grilled prawns or pasta with tomato and basil sauce.
Appearance: Attractive pale peach pink.
Nose: Complex and elegant. Subtle aromas of red fruits (raspberries, strawberries) combine with citrus notes that give it freshness.
Palate: A wine with a unique personality – delicate, fresh, with good acidity and bursting with fruity sensations.
When Manuel Raventós acquired the barren lands of the Raimat estate in 1914, in a desert-like area of Lleida, almost bordering the Los Monegros desert, few believed he was in his right mind. Almost 90 years later, Raimat is a thriving estate with 2,100 hectares dedicated to vineyard cultivation, still in the hands of the Raventós family, owners of the Grupo Codorníu.
The first Raimat winery dates back to 1918 and was designed by the eminent modernist architect Rubió i Bellver. A subsequent expansion in 1988, carried out in line with the latest trends in ecological architecture and landscape integration, gave the winery its definitive appearance. Raimat was one of the first brands to cultivate foreign varieties almost unknown in Spain at the time and to adopt trellis training, leaving behind the classic and traditional bush vine.
