With a 108-year track record, Raimat is almost a Denominación de Origen in itself. Its quality, recognitions and market position have been growing ever since the forward-looking Manuel Raventós laid the first stone of the winery after purchasing a desert-like estate in Costers del Segre.
A pioneer in cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon since its beginnings, Bodegas Raimat has succeeded in ensuring a long life – the exclusive preserve of the great international reds, headed by those of Bordeaux – for the wines it makes from this variety.
Now, at Vinoselección, we bring you Raimat Turons de Vallcorba 2019, a wine of top quality – in terms of the winery as well as the production area and the variety itself in Spain. It’s been aged for 20 months in large, 4,000-litre French barrels to give it huge laying down potential. You can enjoy it now or put away a few bottles for later.
Attractive cherry-red colour, very deeply pigmented.
Fine, intense and complex nose with pleasant balsamic aromas and notes of ripe black fruit, wild berries and herbs, which give way to hints of spice.
Great balance on the attack, full, flavoursome, mouth-coating and supple. Elegant mid-palate with touches of fine wood and enticing fine tannins. Long, Mediterranean finish with hints of underbrush and shady forest.
An exuberant wine with elegant tannins that delights the palate. Notable for its length and texture. It preserves the expression of the fruit with a subtle and respectful integration of the oak.
When Manuel Raventós acquired the barren lands of the Raimat estate in 1914, in a desert-like area of Lleida, almost bordering the Los Monegros desert, few believed he was in his right mind. Almost 90 years later, Raimat is a thriving estate with 2,100 hectares dedicated to vineyard cultivation, still in the hands of the Raventós family, owners of the Grupo Codorníu.
The first Raimat winery dates back to 1918 and was designed by the eminent modernist architect Rubió i Bellver. A subsequent expansion in 1988, carried out in line with the latest trends in ecological architecture and landscape integration, gave the winery its definitive appearance. Raimat was one of the first brands to cultivate foreign varieties almost unknown in Spain at the time and to adopt trellis training, leaving behind the classic and traditional bush vine.
