Raimat Abadia Ecológico 2023 is an intense coupage of cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo that Raimat first crafted in 1978, inspired by the dedication and perseverance of the monks of the abbey in their daily work. Today, it is a true icon of the brand that continues to garner success, a red wine from the D.O. Costers del Segre that will captivate you with its intense fruity aromas and subtle notes of vanilla and dark chocolate.

Raimat Abadia Ecológico 2023 comes from the vineyards of Raimat in the D.O. Costers del Segre, with shallow soils of coarse texture and clay-loam composition, with depths ranging between 40 and 90 cm. The vineyard maintains a vegetal cover of native species to promote the biological richness of the soil and prevent erosion and compaction, and controlled deficit irrigation (RDI) techniques are applied to induce water stress at specific stages to enhance the concentration of color, aromas, and flavors. The continental climate of the area, with marked thermal variation, favors the balanced ripening of the cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo grapes used in its production, cultivated in certified organic vineyards.

The production of Raimat Abadia Ecológico 2023 begins with night harvesting and an initial cooling maintained for 24-48 hours to carry out a cold maceration that preserves the primary aromas. Fermentation is carried out under controlled temperature to extract matter and color, and after alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 50% of the wine spends three months in barrels to round out the tannins and add aromatic complexity, contributing to the broad, balanced, and structured character that defines Raimat Abadia Ecológico.

The Raimat winery, whose history dates back to 1914 when Manuel Raventós i Domènech transformed arid lands into a large wine estate, is the producer of Raimat Abadia Ecológico and represents the essence of the wines of Lleida. Raimat was a pioneer in viticultural and oenological technologies and maintains a clear commitment to sustainable viticulture: today, the estate encompasses 2,245 hectares of fully certified organic vineyards.

Raimat Abadia Ecológico 2023 is highly versatile for pairings; its aromas of ripe black and red fruit, toasted and spicy notes, and its structure make it ideal to accompany meat stews, aged cheeses, legume dishes, roasted vegetables, and pasta with rich sauces. It also works as a complement to dishes with some character and mild spices, offering a generous and spicy finish that enhances every bite.

The winery

Raimat

When Manuel Raventós acquired the barren lands of the Raimat estate in 1914, in a desert-like area of Lleida, almost bordering the Los Monegros desert, few believed he was in his right mind. Almost 90 years later, Raimat is a thriving estate with 2,100 hectares dedicated to vineyard cultivation, still in the hands of the Raventós family, owners of the Grupo Codorníu.

The first Raimat winery dates back to 1918 and was designed by the eminent modernist architect Rubió i Bellver. A subsequent expansion in 1988, carried out in line with the latest trends in ecological architecture and landscape integration, gave the winery its definitive appearance. Raimat was one of the first brands to cultivate foreign varieties almost unknown in Spain at the time and to adopt trellis training, leaving behind the classic and traditional bush vine.
