Protos 9 Meses 2024 is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero designed for those seeking a direct, modern wine with good structure at the table. It is made from Tempranillo and combines ripe fruit with the character of a brief and well-measured ageing in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. It has that serious edge that appeals, but without losing approachability. Very today.
The grapes come from vineyards certified for organic farming, planted on slopes, with north-south orientation and on calcareous-clay soil, at an altitude of 800 to 840 metres. This location helps the harvest maintain freshness and balance, something that is reflected in the wine's profile. Fermentation and maceration are carried out in small stainless steel tanks to bring out the best in the fruit and give the wine a good presence.
Bodegas Protos is one of the most recognised wineries in Ribera del Duero, with a long tradition linked to the region and a style of work where tradition and precision go hand in hand. This Protos 9 Meses 2024 aptly summarises that idea: an accessible, carefully crafted wine with personality, one that invites you to return to the glass without much thought.

Protos 9 Meses 2024 is produced with Tempranillo in small stainless steel tanks, where maceration and fermentation take place at around 26 ºC to enhance colour extraction and structure. The cellar work aims for a red wine designed for those who prefer wines that are direct, expressive, and with good fruit definition.
In this production process, the grapes remain in contact with their skins throughout, intensifying the wine’s profile before completing fermentation in the tank. The result is a precise and controlled vinification. Simple in appearance, but very effective.
Aging
At Bodegas Protos, this red from Ribera del Duero is produced with fermentation and maceration in small stainless steel tanks at around 26 ºC, a careful technique aimed at extracting maximum colour and structure before spending 9 months ageing in French oak barrels, where the Tempranillo gains integration, toasted notes, and a more refined expression without losing freshness or definition. The length of time spent in bottle before release to the market is not specified.
Vineyard
Description
Protos 9 Meses 2024 expresses the most accurate identity of the Ribera del Duero. It comes from vineyards certified for organic farming, planted on hillside slopes with a North–South orientation on calcareous-loam soils, at an altitude of between 800 and 840 metres above sea level. This arrangement promotes balanced ripening and good sun exposure, in an environment with a continental climate that provides thermal contrast and enhances fruit freshness. The primary varietal is Tempranillo, here worked with an approach that seeks concentration, structure, and purity of origin.
Climate
Can a vineyard offer balance when the weather tightens in summer? In Protos 9 Meses, the altitude of 800-840 metres and the continental climate of Ribera del Duero favour precise ripening, while spring rainfall supports good budding. The summer arrives with very high temperatures and scarce rainfall, a combination that concentrates the grapes and enhances the character of the wine.
Viticulture
Protos 9 Meses 2024 comes from vineyards certified in organic farming, cultivated to precisely express the character of Tempranillo in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The winery grows the grapes on slopes, with a north-south orientation, over calcareous-loam soil, at an altitude of 800-840 metres, seeking a natural balance between ripeness, freshness, and concentration.
The vineyard is managed with low yields to favour more concentrated and higher quality grapes. It is a sustainable viticulture, carefully tended and aimed at preserving the identity of the origin.

Protos was (except for Vega Sicilia) the first winery of Ribera del Duero: founded in 1927 as a cooperative after the union of 11 winegrowers from the area, and one of the wineries that promoted the creation of the Denomination of Origin in Ribera del Duero (1982). Today, it is one of the most important wineries in Spain, and its wines are sold in 100 countries across five continents.
Located in Peñafiel, where the old and new wineries are connected by an underground tunnel. The old winery, exclusively dedicated to aging, has 2 kilometers of underground galleries carved into the mountain on which the castle stands, where the wines are aged under optimal natural conditions. The new facilities, with a spectacular design by the prestigious architect Richard Rogers, place Protos at the forefront of the wine and wine tourism scene. In fact, it is the most visited winery in the D.O. Ribera del Duero and was the first nationally to achieve the "mark of excellence" certificate by the prestigious international body Superbrands. Additionally, in 2013, Protos was recognized as "Winery of the Year" by Wine & Spirit magazine, and in 2022, it was named one of the 50 most admired wineries in the world by the prestigious international organization Drinks International.
Bodegas Protos owns 150 hectares of its own vineyards and also sources from its associates to craft its elegant wines. This carefully managed but extensive viticulture potential allows the allocation of each grape bunch to a specific type of wine. Another cornerstone of its philosophy is the constant renewal of its barrel stock (with a maximum of 4 years). Since 2006, Protos has also been present in the D.O. Rueda, where it produces Verdejo whites following the same high-quality standards. More recently, in 2019, it announced its entry into the D.O. Cigales.
