Portia Triennia 2020 is unquestionably one of the best red wines made by Bodegas Portia. It’s 100% Tempranillo red that comes with the guarantees of a vintage rated as Excellent in the Ribera del Duero DO, and has been aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Portia is part of the well-known Faustino group, whose origins date back to 1861. With its roots in La Rioja, the group grew and expanded into different production areas, arriving in Ribera del Duero in the 1990s. Bodegas Portia’s impressive facilities in the Burgos town of Gumiel de Izán were designed by the British architect Norman Foster, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1999 and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2009.
Portia Triennia 2020 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with Asturian bean stew or a roast suckling pig.
Appealing black-cherry colour with intense pigmentation. Elegant and complex nose with prominent mineral and black fruit aromas, giving way to balsamic hints of lozenges together with fine and noble woods. Full-bodied on the palate, tasty, elegant, balanced and fresh and with perfectly integrated, elegant tannins. Spicy, smoky and cocoa notes are perceptible in the long finish.
Bodegas Portia (2010) is the crown jewel of the Faustino Group and the latest winery to join this society. Portia wines represent the “modern Ribera” and are quality benchmarks in this denomination. These wines are characterized by prioritizing fruity character, where the wood is merely a complement. For their production, Portia has an extensive viticultural heritage and, like the rest of the Faustino Group wineries, strives to obtain high-quality raw materials.
Portia boasts impressive facilities designed by Norman Foster in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos). With 12,500 m2 of strict functionality, it features three floors and three arms dedicated to specific functions. In one of them, the winemaking process takes place; in another, fermentation; and in the third, barrel aging. At the central core of the building is the grape reception hopper, shop, tasting room, and auditorium. The greatest treasure of the winery is its vineyards: it owns 250 hectares in the area of Roa, Gumiel de Izán, Villanueva, and Gumiel de Mercado. Among its plots, Finca La Encina in Gumiel de Mercado stands out.
