General Information
Portia Selección de Familia 2024 is a red wine that embodies the essence of Ribera del Duero and the greatness of a privileged vineyard. The story of this wine is linked to Bodegas Portia, one of the most spectacular wineries in Ribera del Duero, designed by the prestigious architect Norman Foster and inaugurated in Gumiel de Izán in the 1990s, with an innovative three-pointed star-shaped construction that marked a milestone in wine architecture. Portia is part of the Martínez Zabala Family, one of Spain's great winemaking dynasties, with Rioja roots and over 160 hectares of vineyards in the most valued areas of the Burgos Ribera del Duero.
The production of Portia Selección de Familia 2024 follows the winery's classic method: controlled fermentation in truncated cone-shaped tanks for a gentle extraction of aromas, and aging in oak barrels, which provide structure and complexity. Each vintage is crafted with selected batches of tempranillo cultivated at over 800 meters of altitude, ensuring freshness, concentration, and balance.

On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of fresh fruit, notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum, accompanied by delicate floral nuances and subtle hints of toasted oak.
On the palate, it is vibrant and balanced, with a long finish that evokes dried fruits and conveys the nobility of great tempranillos.
The winery
Bodegas Portia (2010) is the crown jewel of the Faustino Group and the latest winery to join this society. Portia wines represent the “modern Ribera” and are quality benchmarks in this denomination. These wines are characterized by prioritizing fruity character, where the wood is merely a complement. For their production, Portia has an extensive viticultural heritage and, like the rest of the Faustino Group wineries, strives to obtain high-quality raw materials.
Portia boasts impressive facilities designed by Norman Foster in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos). With 12,500 m2 of strict functionality, it features three floors and three arms dedicated to specific functions. In one of them, the winemaking process takes place; in another, fermentation; and in the third, barrel aging. At the central core of the building is the grape reception hopper, shop, tasting room, and auditorium. The greatest treasure of the winery is its vineyards: it owns 250 hectares in the area of Roa, Gumiel de Izán, Villanueva, and Gumiel de Mercado. Among its plots, Finca La Encina in Gumiel de Mercado stands out.
