Portia Selección de Familia 2023 is produced exclusively for Vinoselección by one of the most spectacular wineries in Ribera del Duero: Portia, designed by Norman Foster. This winery is part of the Familia Martínez Zabala group (formerly the Faustino group) owned by one the great Spanish winemaking families. Their Selección de Familia is a red wine made exclusively for Vinoselección since the 2012 vintage. A real privilege. We’re now offering you the latest vintage of this Club classic. A vibrant Tempranillo aged for 3 months in barrels, with fruity flavours, delicate floral notes and subtle hints of toasted oak.
General information
Portia Selección de Familia 2023 is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from vineyards located in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, specifically in the towns of Gumiel de Mercado and Gumiel de Izán in areas close to the winery. All these vineyards lie at an altitude of over 800 metres. The predominant soils in the region are mainly sandy. Controlled fermentation in truncated cone-shaped tanks enabled the aromas to be gently extracted. The wine was aged for 3 months in oak barrels (225 l).
Bodegas Portia is part of the Familia Martínez Zabala group, whose origins date back to 1861. With roots in La Rioja, the group grew and established itself in different production areas before setting up Portia in Ribera del Duero in the 1990s.
Bodegas Portia’s impressive facilities in Gumiel de Izán are shaped like a three-pointed star (their image is reproduced on the wine label) and marked a milestone in winery architecture. They were designed by the British architect Norman Foster, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1999 and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2009.
Portia's 160 hectares of vineyards are located in some of the most prized areas of Ribera del Duero in Burgos, such as Roa, Gumiel del Mercado, Gumiel de Izán and Villanueva.
Portia Selección de Familia 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) goes very well with roast lamb with baked potatoes.

Bright purple colour. Very intense aromas of fresh fruits such as blackberry, redcurrant and plum. A vibrant wine with fruity flavours, together with delicate notes of white flowers and subtle hints of toasted oak. Long finish with nutty hints, especially hazelnuts.
