Polvorete 2023 is a white wine produced by Bodegas Emilio Moro exclusively from Godello grapes in the D.O Bierzo. Specialists in making red wines in Ribera del Duero, with this new white Bodegas Emilio Moro have adopted the excellent Godello variety as a standard bearer in their conquest of new areas outside their pet Denominación.
Matured for 8 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks to preserve the primary aromas of the Godello grape, Polvorete is an elegant, warm and harmonious white that embodies all the virtues of this grape grown in a winemaking region that’s currently on the rise, El Bierzo. This Godello is appealing on both inside and outside. Its striking label, designed by painter Domingo Zapata, represents the youth of the wine, with bright colours and citrus fruits. The landscape of the Bierzo region inspired his design.
Emilio Moro launched their first Godello wine in 2016. After experimenting extensively with other varieties, they found that only this grape offered the intensity, versatility and complexity they were looking for. In addition, the complex geographical features of the D.O. Bierzo with its hillsides, microclimates and varied soils allows them to make unique wines in small quantities but of very high quality, with great acidity and freshness.
Polvorete 2023 is a white wine that’s perfect for starting the evening as it goes with all kinds of appetisers, Ibérico pork deli meats, and seafood.
Displays an attractive straw-yellow colour.
Expressive nose with prominent aromas of white flowers together with hints of ripe fruit.
Tasty and fresh on the attack with a nicely integrated acidic edge and a long finish.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is among the wineries that have most contributed to showcasing the excellence of Ribera del Duero wines beyond our borders. It is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly regarded worldwide; in fact, it was recently nominated for the Best European Winery award by the influential American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast,’ which recognized it as the best in Spain. Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, it is currently led by Javier Moro (president), heir to the love for wine of his grandfather and father, both named Emilio.
This Valladolid-based winery has always been committed to producing wines deeply connected to their terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them personality. It owns nearly 400 hectares of its own vineyards, planted and grafted with a clone of tempranillo recovered from its oldest vines, which undoubtedly provides fruits of extraordinary quality, with great color, character, and nuances. Among the most emblematic plots of the winery are Resalso (planted in 1933, the year Emilio Moro, father of the current owners, was born); Valderramiro, with the oldest vines of the winery and the cradle of the great wine Malleolus de Valderramiro; Sanchomartín and Camino Viejo, from which the red wine Malleolus is born.
In 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, for the first time, outside Ribera del Duero, under the Bierzo designation of origin, where they have three labels. Since 2023, they have owned a winery in the area. Currently, they have over 60 hectares dedicated to the godello grape.
