Las Pisadas 2018 is the first wine from La Carbonera, the new project of Bodegas Torres in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. With it, the powerful Catalan group seeks to pay tribute to the winemaking legacy of Labastida, the town where it is based. This is a great single-varietal Tempranillo from vineyards between 25 and 50 years old, planted in different plots at various altitudes, with different soils, orientations, and microclimates. The result is a unique landscape wine that combines origin and typicity.

Las Pisadas 2018 is a single-varietal Tempranillo aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, named after the winemaking traditions of the Rioja Alavesa, where ancient wine presses were carved into the rocky slopes of the sierra.
The surname Torres has been linked to winemaking in Penedès since the 17th century, although the official founding date of the winery is set in 1870. Generation after generation, this company based in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona) has remained in family hands, becoming today, quite likely, the most well-known Spanish winery in the world. Torres has become a major exporting company with a presence in more than 140 countries. A winery with a string of globally recognized brands, including enological gems as well as accessible wines.
Their philosophy aims to harmonize modern viticulture and enology with traditional techniques. Throughout its long history, it has acquired the best estates, reaching over 2000 hectares of its own vineyards. Additionally, it has been a pioneer in the introduction of foreign grape varieties in our country, which they have been cultivating for more than 40 years. With the turn of the century, Bodegas Torres embarked on the conquest of other production areas, and currently produces in various Catalan denominations, in Ribera del Duero, Toro, Rueda, Rioja, etc. This family business also owns wineries in Chile and California.
Dark cherry color, well-covered layer.
On the nose, it is deliciously fruity (raspberry jam), with fine notes of dried fruits (dátiles) and a background of spices (clove).
Tasty and warm on the palate. Very pleasant and sensual passage.
La Carbonera is the new winemaking project of Familia Torres in Rioja Alavesa. Located in the municipality of Labastida, the winery takes its name from its most emblematic vineyard, La Carbonera, classified as a singular vineyard for its historical and heritage value in preserving ancient rock-hewn wine presses.
Originally from Penedès, the Torres family arrived in 2006 to Rioja Alavesa, drawn by the winemaking tradition of this sub-region. With this project, which began a decade ago, they strengthen their commitment to Labastida under the oenological direction of Julio Carreter.
The aim of La Carbonera is none other than to highlight the origin and typicity of the area through tempranillo wines that reflect the unmistakable Rioja landscape, from its 20 hectares of estate-owned vineyards and selected vineyards from local growers. They produce Las Pisadas, a wine from Labastida whose first vintage was 2015, and Malpastor Crianza, which comes from selected vineyards with clay-limestone soils at the foothills of the Sonsierra. 2020 is its first vintage.
