General Information

Pas Curtei 2022 is a unique red wine made with 60% 25-year-old merlot, 20% 25-year-old cabernet sauvignon, and 20% cariñena over 60 years old. This coupage surprises with its special attention to vineyard care, very short macerations, and longer aging. Pas Curtei is a powerful wine, yet infinitely gentle on the palate, expressing a unique character imparted by its varieties and terroir. Its creators, Laurent Corrió and Irene Alemany, follow organic viticulture under biodynamic principles. This is the philosophy of the Burgundy winemakers, the region where they met while studying enology.

Their shared interest and passion for wine was the seed that created the first garage winery in Penedés in 1999. The vineyards of the Alemany I Corrió winery are located in Lavern. It has 8 hectares on a gentle slope, where varieties such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and 60-year-old cariñena (typical of this wine) are cultivated. In recent years, white varieties such as xarel·lo, chardonnay, and malvasía have also been gradually incorporated.

Pas Curtei 2022 is an exceptional red wine from the D.O. Penedès, crafted with meticulous vineyard care, with manual harvesting in small boxes to the winery. Once there, it is vinified separately according to grape variety, pre-fermented cold, and fermented in tanks with maceration on the skins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes aging in French oak, and finally, the definitive coupage is performed. The result is a great red wine with excellent potential for evolution in the bottle, making it the ideal companion for spicy dishes, blue fish, meat-based rice dishes, and grilled red meat.

Tasting notes

Intense garnet color with purple reflections, with good tears, clean and bright.

On the nose, deep and fresh aromas appear. It takes a moment to open up, with mineral, stony memories alongside smoky notes. Once oxygenated, very expressive black fruit emerges, mixed with good toasted notes.

On the palate, a good and enveloping entry, where black fruit stands out alongside citrus notes. The mouthfeel is silky and fresh, with well-balanced acidity and polished tannins. Very long finish with a mineral aftertaste.

The winery

The adventure of Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió in Penedès began in 1999. From that very moment, they have been a benchmark in the region for their way of crafting and understanding the world of wine.

The winery started its journey in a small warehouse in Vilafranca del Penedès. Its protagonists are the aforementioned Laurent Corrió, biochemist and winemaker, and his wife, also a winemaker, Irene Alemany.

The winery's vineyards are located in Lavern, covering 8 hectares cultivated on a gentle slope (around 15%), where varieties such as 24-year-old Merlot, 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, and 60-year-old Cariñena are planted. Over the years, white varieties like Xarel·lo, Chardonnay, and Malvasía have been gradually cultivated.

At the Alemany i Corrió winery, the unique vineyard management stands out, with significant restrictions on production, as they aim for greater phenolic concentration in their grapes. Regarding the local climate, it is also noteworthy that there is a clear Mediterranean influence with various microclimates and significant thermal variation.

The philosophy of the winery is to craft their wines following a process as artisanal as possible, highlighting the utmost fidelity to the terroir.
