Oda Blanc 2022 is an exceptional and unique white wine, an exotic and fresh blend made from the selection of the best chardonnay and macabeo grapes from our own vineyard located over 500 meters above sea level, cultivated on clay, silt, and gravel soil. It is a selection of vineyards from the regions of Lleida, La Noguera, L´Urgell, and the mountains of Les Garrigues. These ingredients help create the heart of this unique white, where ripe fruit and minerality stand out, appearing both on the nose and palate.
Castell del Remei is one of the classic and benchmark wineries in the Costers del Segre Denomination of Origin. Here, the heart and mind of this project come into play: the winemaker and viticulturist Tomàs Cusiné Barber. The winery was founded in 1780, when Ignasi Girona Vilanova's father cultivated the estate with a significant influence from French viticulture. It is the oldest winery in Catalonia in the production of fine aged wines. The winery has about 100 hectares of its own vineyards, working with native varieties such as garnacha, tempranillo, cariñena, trepat, malvasía, and macabeo, as well as French-origin vines introduced to the estate in the 19th century, including cabernet sauvignon, syrah, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc.
With the commitment to working under the premise of sustainable agriculture, Tomàs Cusiné produces this white wine from the D.O. Costers del Segre. It starts with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Before the fermentation is complete, the must is transferred to barrels, where fermentation finishes and aging begins. It is noteworthy that malolactic fermentation is not carried out to maintain natural acidity. Additionally, there is periodic work on the lees, always according to tastings. Finally, it undergoes 6-7 months of aging in first and second-year American oak barrels, with lees stirring. The result is this Oda Blanc 2022, a white wine that, due to its creaminess and other characteristics, pairs ideally with smoked foods, oily fish, raw seafood, complex salads, baked and grilled white fish, and fish-based rice dishes.
Oda Blanc shows a pale golden color with many reflections, clean and bright.
On the nose, it has an intense character, manifested with very clear aromas of baked apple, butter, roasted notes, pastry, and freshly cut noble wood.
On the palate, it is unctuous, exuberant, and persistent, with creamy sensations and smoky, dairy, and candied lemon peel notes.
Castell del Remei is a benchmark winery in the Denomination of Origin Costers del Segre. It belongs to the winemaker and viticulturist Tomàs Cusiné Barber, who is also the owner of the wineries of the same name and Cérvoles Celler.
The origins of the winery date back to the year 1780, when the father of Don Ignasi Girona Vilanova cultivated the estate influenced by French viticulture. It is the oldest winery in Catalonia for producing fine aged wines, as well as the first Catalan winery built following the Bordeaux-style château model surrounded by vineyards.
The estate has a Mediterranean-continental climate, characterized by a wide thermal variation between its very cold winters and very hot summers, with low rainfall and average humidity.
The winery has approximately 100 hectares of vineyards at an altitude between 700 and 800 meters, on clay-loam soils with abundant gravel, which allows for good drainage. Additionally, it works with native grape varieties such as garnacha, tempranillo, cariñena, trepat, malvasía, and macabeo; to which are added French-origin vines introduced to the estate in the 19th century, with varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, syrah, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc.
With Castell del Remei, they have sought to achieve the maximum expression of the terroir and mountain vineyards, with an average vine age exceeding 25 years, practicing ecological and sustainable vineyard management. In the aging areas, the winery has 1000 barrels of French and American oak.
