General Information

Mumm Grand Cordon follows a rigorous manufacturing process. Its blend is mainly composed of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier varieties. The result is a complex, mature and elegant champagne with a lively and incredibly balanced palate. It displays aromas of ripe white fruit, and hints of vanilla, pastries, nuts and honey.

G.H. Mumm is one of the largest and most prestigious houses in Champagne. Its official foundation was in 1827, although the origins of the Mumms, the German family that created the maison, date back to the twelfth century and by 1761 it already owned a vast area of vineyards in the Rhine Valley, where it made and marketed its own wines.

At the beginning of the 19th century, attracted by the commercial potential of the fantastic sparkling wines of the French region of la Champagne, the Gottlieb brothers, Jacobus and Philipp Mumm decided to open a branch of the family business in Reims. The very highest quality was the hallmark of the firm from its beginnings, a maxim that, years later, would be embodied in the slogan "Only the best", coined by George Hermann Mumm, son of one of the founders who, in 1852, took over the management of the company. From that moment on, the company was to become known worldwide as G.H. Mumm.

Under his direction, the maison saw its vineyard grow and consolidate (currently 218 hectares, 98% classified as Grands Crus), as one of the best in the region; and its select champagnes were marketed on five continents. At the beginning of the 20th century, the firm had about twenty subsidiaries located in countries such as the United States, Russia, Canada, Brazil and Peru.

In 1904 the company was appointed official supplier of champagne to the British royal household, an honour it commemorated with a special label proclaiming itself the “Champagne des Souverains”, the champagne of the sovereigns. Today, the company is owned by the Pernod Ricard group, and remains synonymous with the utmost exclusivity and elegance.

Mumm Grand Cordon (A.O.C. Champagne) is ideal to accompany with Iberian ham or grilled salmon with vegetables.
