Matarromera is one of the wineries that makes a difference in Spanish wine. Characterised by producing excellent ageing wines, the key lies in its vineyard, located in the ‘golden mile’ of Ribera del Duero. Its Matarromera Reserva 2019 originates from an excellent vintage.
If there is one thing that characterises Bodega Matarromera, it is its ability to produce age-worthy wines in the Ribera del Duero. The key lies in the raw material, in the vineyard. For Matarromera Reserva 2019, they select Tempranillo vines over 25 years old with a balanced vegetative growth, which produce smaller bunches and grapes, but with higher concentration of colour and polyphenols.
Matarromera Reserva 2019 sources from two vineyards: Las Celadillas, in Olivares de Duero, planted with traditional Tempranillo clones from the area; and Las Solanas, which is Matarromera's legendary estate. Both plots are situated at over 750 m altitude and feature calcareous soils that promote good water drainage and yield full-bodied wines suitable for ageing.
Founded by Carlos Moro in 1988 in Valbuena de Duero, in the “golden mile” of the Ribera, Bodega Matarromera quickly achieved almost instant success. Today, this name is recognised internationally.

General Information
Matarromera Reserva 2019 expresses the Ribera del Duero with an unusually precise vineyard character.
Matarromera Reserva 2019 originates from Tempranillo vines over 25 years old, cultivated with measured canopy to produce small bunches with higher concentration of colour and polyphenols. It comes from the vineyards of Las Celadillas, in Olivares de Duero, planted with traditional local clones, and from Las Solanas, the iconic plot of the estate. Both plots are situated above 750 m altitude, on calcareous soils with good drainage, in a continental climate that promotes full-bodied wines suitable for aging.
In the winery, Matarromera Reserva 2019 is crafted as a long-aging red, with 12 months’ maturation in fine-grain French and American oak barrels with a gentle toast. The aim is to harmonise ripe fruit, mineral notes, and hints of cacao, spices, and balsamics, with the technical signature of Javier Aladro and the vision of Carlos Moro González at the helm of Bodega Matarromera. The estate and raw material selection underpin this serious, deep, and long-lived profile.
Matarromera Reserva 2019 pairs well with a barbecue, spicy dishes, roasted lamb, oxtail, and bluefish. Its structure and mineral foundation enable it to accompany intense dishes without losing finesse, making it a versatile and highly gastronomic Reserva.

In its early years, we find on the palate sensations of dark chocolate that evolve into new leather and tobacco.
Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods. The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success is its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.
Matarromera was the first winery of Carlos Moro and the seed of one of the most important wine groups in this country: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The first red wine produced by the winery—an ancestor of the brand we now know as Melior—achieved the title of "Best Wine in the World" at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) competition held in Turkey in 1995. Currently, Bodega Matarromera has 150 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 160 hectares.
