Matanegra Reserva 2018 is pure Ribera del Duero. It’s a Tempranillo that stands apart from the rest with its unmistakeable style and superb flavours. It’s made by a firm that’s unknown to the public at large, Pagos de Matanegra, a boutique winery that produces wines in limited quantities, enabling it to devote the necessary attention to each one and monitor their development. General Information

A few years ago we came across a small winery in Olmedillo de Roa (Burgos) that hugely impressed us with the quality of its wines. We’re talking about Pagos de Matanegra, a firm that had become well established in little more than a decade based on organic grape farming and minimal interference in the vineyards, practices that result in extremely high-quality wines with unmistakeable flavours. We’re now unconditional fans of them all and are proud to offer you each new vintage.

Matanegra Reserva 2018 is a wine made solely from Tempranillo grapes grown at more than 950 metres above sea level in calcareous-clay soil. These conditions make the vineyards unique and different, with a character of their own.  Savouring the wine will take you back to this region’s origins. Its secret is its priceless ingredients, grapes from a vineyard with an average age of more than 60 years, some plants more than a century old. And its wines are aged in French oak barrels that imbue them with all the properties of the wood but subtly and slowly.

The winery

Pagos de Matanegra

The vineyards of Pagos de Matanegra grow in the heart of Ribera del Duero, in the privileged golden triangle, famous for offering the most sought-after grapes. The name Matanegra comes from the terroir where some of the best grapes of Ribera del Duero are obtained. Nestled in a privileged soil, especially suitable for the cultivation of Tempranillo. The small winery Pagos de Matanegra defines itself as a new generation of boutique wineries, with the sole aim of creating the best wine possible. Its small productions allow for meticulous control and care throughout the creative process.
