General Information

Martivillí Fermentado en Barrica 2023 is a young white wine made from 100% Verdejo grapes, cultivated in vineyards located 800 meters above sea level, with very cold and long winters, short springs, and hot, dry summers. These vines are planted in soils rich in calcium and magnesium, as well as being rocky, which helps with necessary aeration and drainage. One of the secrets of this wine is its fantastic balance between acidity and sugar, due to the thermal oscillation between day and night in the area.

The Lorenzo Cachazo family is recognized for its long winemaking history. The pillars of Bodegas Ángel Lorenzo Cachazo, founded in 1988, are built on this family heritage and a tradition of good craftsmanship. Their deep and ancient underground cellars have already seen extraordinary wines pass through. The winery is located in the municipality of Pozaldez, in the province of Valladolid, a locality within the Denomination of Origin Rueda.

The barrel fermentation in contact with the lees for 5 months is the distinguishing feature of this wine, which in its final production stage is aged in the bottle for 12 months in the wonderful underground cellar at a temperature between 12º and 15º degrees. The final result is a delicate and fresh wine with prominent aromas of green fruit and citrus. Martivillí Fermentado en Barrica 2023 is an ideal wine to accompany appetizers and fish dishes.

Tasting notes

Martivillí Fermentado en Barrica has a golden yellow color with greenish details, clean and bright.

With a clean and intense nose, it presents aromas of green apple fruit, pineapple, and citrus notes, as well as a spicy background from the soft wood.

On the palate, it is unctuous, glyceric, and fresh with a long, persistent finish in which the typical bitterness of the verdejo grape appears.

The winery

Martivillí, by Ángel Lorenzo Cachazo, was founded in 1988 from the expertise of a family seasoned in vineyard care and with deep knowledge of local traditions. The great-grandparents and grandparents of the current generation worked in the vineyards to produce grapes for crafting the historic wines of the old “Tierra de Medina,” which gained a great reputation during the golden years of the Medina del Campo fairs.

Martivillí is located in the village of Pozaldez (Valladolid), within the Rueda Denomination of Origin, and has 35 hectares of its own vineyards. They produce wines using both verdejo and the French variety sauvignon blanc, which adapted well to the Rueda soils. Other varieties like viura or palomino are also used, though they are typically residual in the area, following the D.O.'s strong focus on the queen of the region: the verdejo grape.

In this regard, the prominence of this grape has not prevented them from producing other types of quality wines, such as oak-aged reds, barrel-fermented wines, or fruit-forward rosés.

A few years ago, they inaugurated their new facilities, which marked a radical shift in the production of the region's traditional wines. In this way, they have also embraced modern white wines crafted with the most innovative techniques, while maintaining a key practice for them: a meticulous selection of grapes from their own vineyards.

Fun fact: the name Martivillí comes from one of the ponds where locals used to collect rainwater in a region with significant water scarcity.
