Marqués de Vitoria Reserva 2019 is a single-varietal created from Tempranillo grapes and comes from a vintage that was rated Excellent in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The grapes that went into making it came from an estate in Oyón, Rioja Alavesa. It was fermented at a controlled temperature of 28ºC and aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
Marqués de Vitoria is located in Oyón (Rioja Alavesa), some 60 kilometres away from Vitoria, the capital of the province with the same name. Since 1995 this winery has been producing wines in this subzone of the D.O.Ca. Rioja from vineyards of its own located in the municipalities of Oyón, Barriobusto and Mendavia. This Reserva in particular comes from the vineyard the firm owns in Oyón, at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level.
The winery building, which spans more than 8,000 square metres, is notable for its striking barrel cellar with a wooden roof. Its facilities hold some 96,000 bottles of wines that are currently being matured to perfection and will be released over the next few years. The label of this Marqués de Vitoria Reserva 2017 displays an illustration of the winery and the village of Oyón (Rioja Alavesa), with which it has inseparable links.
Marqués de Vitoria Reserva 2019 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is the perfect accompaniment to stewed lentils with chorizo or peas with ham.
Appearance: clean, bright cherry-red evolving to garnet-red, medium-high pigmentation.
Nose: an explosion of cocoa, dark chocolate, chocolate liqueurs and toasted walnuts, as well as spicy notes of cloves and pepper. Ripe fruit and aromas of cedar.
Flavours: good intensity and complexity. Balanced. Fine tannins but good acidity.
Marqués de Vitoria represents like no other the character of Rioja Alavesa. Rioja Alavesa produces reds with nerve, with character, that pay homage to the magnificent terroir from which they come. A land protected by the imposing Sierra de Cantabria, enjoying a privileged microclimate and a winemaking tradition that dates back to Roman times. The prestigious Marqués de Vitoria is owned by Grupo Faustino.
