Marqués de Cáceres Edición Especial Reserva 2020 is an exclusive wine born from the close collaboration between Vinoselección and one of the most iconic wineries of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. This special edition is crafted exclusively for Vinoselección members, ensuring a unique and personalized experience for wine lovers seeking quality, authenticity, and distinction.
The 2020 vintage has been rated as Excellent by the Regulatory Council, which already hints at the level of excellence this red wine offers. For its production, grapes from old vineyards located in privileged areas of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa were selected, where the climate and soil foster optimal ripening of the tempranillo variety. The harvest is carried out manually, with a rigorous selection of the clusters in the winery to ensure maximum quality. Additionally, the vinification takes place in small-volume tanks with temperature control, preserving the wine's fruity expression and freshness. Subsequently, the wine ages for 22 months in French and American oak barrels, both new and semi-new, adding complexity, structure, and elegance. This prolonged and meticulous aging process is one of the elements that sets this special edition apart from other references from the winery.
The result is a Marqués de Cáceres Edición Especial Reserva 2020 that is deep and full of character, combining Rioja tradition with a modern and refined profile. Its balance between fruit, wood, and silky tannins makes it an ideal choice to pair with haute cuisine dishes or to enjoy on special occasions. Furthermore, its limited production and exclusive distribution make it even more desirable for collectors and discerning enthusiasts. You will especially enjoy it with dishes such as callos a la madrileña or a beef stew.
Bright color, with good concentration and an intense cherry hue.
On the nose, it is expressive and elegant, with notes of ripe red fruit accompanied by a subtle mineral touch. The aging process adds nuances of fine roasted notes and soft hints of cocoa, which harmoniously blend with the whole.
On the palate, it is balanced and enveloping, with polished tannins that provide body without losing smoothness. The well-measured acidity gives it freshness and extends the journey, culminating in a persistent finish with fruity echoes and an elegant spicy aftertaste.
The origins of Marqués de Cáceres date back to the late 1960s, when the Valencian Enrique Forner decided to apply in Rioja the winemaking knowledge he had acquired in Bordeaux during his time at Château Camensac. To carry out his project, Forner sought the advice of the renowned oenologist Émile Peynaud.
The first measure taken by the Valencian was to convince the local grape growers from whom he purchased grapes that he only wanted healthy and ripe fruit. He then built a winery equipped with the most modern technology and revolutionized Rioja's winemaking tradition by implementing shorter aging periods than usual, using French oak barrels. Enrique Forner passed away in 2011, but today it is his daughter Cristina who, accompanied by a select group of professionals, keeps one of Spain's most prestigious Rioja wineries at the top.
In 2014, Marqués de Cáceres expanded its operations to the D.O. Rueda, acquiring 125 hectares of vineyards in La Seca and Serrada, planted with the verdejo and sauvignon blanc varieties. They also built a winery there. In 2019, they extended their reach to the D.O. Ribera del Duero, where they own the Finca La Capilla winery.
