Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2020 is made from grapes grown in a unique vineyard of just 2.2 hectares located at an altitude of 127 meters in the Salnés Valley, an area where the Albariño varietal is expressed with great purity.
For the production of Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas, the harvest was carried out manually, selecting and cutting the clusters by hand in the vineyard itself. Once in the winery, they were passed through selection tables and underwent a pre-fermentation maceration for 20 hours at a controlled temperature of 14ºC. The must fermented in Ganímede tanks with native yeasts for 20 days, where it remained with its fine lees during the first year. Two years of work on lees in stainless steel tanks with periodic batonnages culminated in a resting period before bottling. An additional 12 months of aging in the bottle resulted in a white wine from old vines that is vibrant, fresh, and rounded. A fantastic Atlantic Albariño that expresses the passage of time.
The Mar de Frades winery is part of the Zamora Company conglomerate, led by the Rioja-based Ramón Bilbao. In 2007, Mar de Frades inaugurated facilities equipped with the latest technologies, located in Meis (Pontevedra), next to a magnificent Albariño vineyard: Finca Valiñas, which stretches along the slopes of the Salnés Valley.
Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2020 pairs well with raw fish such as tuna tartar or shushi. This white from the D.O. Rías Baixas also goes perfectly with steamed seafood and spiced grilled meats.
Founded in 1987 by a group of winegrowers from the Salnés area, Bodegas Mar de Frades is currently part of the Zamora Group, which is led by the third generation of this family saga. A pioneering winery in the production of high-quality albariños, since 2007, with its new facilities, it stands majestically facing the Arosa estuary. The winemaking building where the wines are born is equipped with the latest technologies applied to winemaking, combining stainless steel tanks with noble woods.
Mar de Frades works with more than 150 winegrowers from the area; additionally, the winery owns nearly 60 hectares of vineyards, a heritage that, in a region dominated by smallholdings, makes it one of the largest vineyard owners in the D.O. Rías Baixas.
