Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2019 is made with grapes cultivated in a unique 2.2-hectare vineyard located at 127 meters above sea level in the Salnés Valley, an area where the Albariño varietal expresses itself with great purity.
To produce Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas, the harvest was carried out manually, selecting and cutting the grape clusters by hand directly in the vineyard. Once in the winery, the grapes went through selection tables and underwent a pre-fermentation maceration for 20 hours at a controlled temperature of 14ºC. The must fermented in Ganimede tanks with native yeasts for 20 days, where it remained with its fine lees during the first year. Two years of work on the lees in stainless steel tanks with periodic batonnages culminated in a resting period before bottling. An additional 12 months of bottle aging resulted in a white wine from old vines that is vibrant, fresh, and rounded. A fantastic Atlantic Albariño that expresses the passage of time.
The Mar de Frades winery is part of the Zamora Company conglomerate, led by the Rioja-based Ramón Bilbao. In 2007, Mar de Frades inaugurated state-of-the-art facilities located in Meis (Pontevedra), alongside a magnificent Albariño vineyard: Finca Valiñas, which extends along the slopes of the Salnés Valley.
Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2019 pairs well with raw fish such as tuna tartar or shushi. This white wine from the D.O. Rías Baixas also perfectly complements steamed seafood and spiced grilled meats.
It is the most special wine of the house and one of the finest and most desired in Spain. Its character is born in the estate and infused with a unique singularity during the three years we care for the wine in the winery. Paula Fandiño.
Founded in 1987 by a group of winegrowers from the Salnés area, Bodegas Mar de Frades is currently part of the Zamora Group, which is led by the third generation of this family saga. A pioneering winery in the production of high-quality albariños, since 2007, with its new facilities, it stands majestically facing the Arosa estuary. The winemaking building where the wines are born is equipped with the latest technologies applied to winemaking, combining stainless steel tanks with noble woods.
Mar de Frades works with more than 150 winegrowers from the area; additionally, the winery owns nearly 60 hectares of vineyards, a heritage that, in a region dominated by smallholdings, makes it one of the largest vineyard owners in the D.O. Rías Baixas.
