Malpaso 2023 is an unusual single-varietal Syrah from the lands of Méntrida. Bodegas Canopy, a benchmark winery of the D.O. Méntrida, showcases its expertise with this red wine, which has garnered excellent reviews from specialized critics in its previous vintages.
Malpaso 2023 - like all the creations from Bodegas Canopy, is a wine conceived from the vineyard, the result of ecological viticulture guided by the utmost respect for the grape. In the case of this red wine, the work has been even more meticulous and careful, as it is a single-varietal Syrah, a variety that is uncommon in the D.O. Méntrida due to the demanding climatic conditions of the region, characterized by scarce rainfall and extreme temperature variations between winter and summer.
Bodegas Canopy has achieved the full adaptation of Syrah to this area in the central peninsula. Malpaso 2023 originates from 35-year-old vineyards planted in sandy soils in the municipality of Camarena (Toledo), at 400 meters above sea level, an altitude that favors the perfect ripening of the grapes. This factor, along with 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, makes it a powerful, rounded, elegant, and well-structured wine.
Medium layer and a bright cherry-red color.
High aromatic intensity on the nose, with a strong presence of black fruit, fused with herbal, balsamic, mineral, violet, and mentholated notes.
The entry on the palate is very pleasant, round, and flavorful. Good load of ripe red fruit (cherries and blueberries) and structure, mature tannins, and excellent acidity, which, along with its freshness, invites continued drinking. Long and persistent finish.
Malpaso is a red wine with an intense deep cherry color. The nose strongly highlights the typicity of Syrah, with black fruit and Mediterranean herbs, nuanced by the fine notes of its aging in French oak. On the palate, it is powerful, with a structure of abundant ripe tannins, great volume, and an acidity that supports the whole. A full, rich, and persistent finish completes the overall sensation.
