Malleolus de Valderramiro 2021 is a sumptuous red wine, an expression of a terroir with great balsamic intensity and unctuousness, and moreover, the result of a formidable vintage in Ribera del Duero.
The tinto fino (tempranillo) grapes that make up this spectacular wine come from the Pago de Valderramiro, a vineyard planted in 1924, which, together with the Resalso vineyard, constitutes the genetic reserve of Bodegas Emilio Moro. This exceptional origin was complemented by a meticulous winemaking process that included 26 days of maceration in small-capacity tanks, 30 days of malolactic fermentation in barrels, and 18 months of aging in French and American oak barrels. The result is one of the greatest red wines the region has ever produced. Vintage after vintage, Malleolus de Valderramiro demonstrates enviable consistency, as evidenced by the ratings obtained by its latest releases, surpassing 92 Parker points.
Since its foundation in 1987, Bodegas Emilio Moro has been one of the flagships of the finest winemaking tradition in Ribera del Duero. A legacy that continues to be passed on through its wines. These are creations of the highest quality, crafted and marketed without adhering to the traditional Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva categories, opting instead for tailored aging according to the characteristics of each vintage. Enjoy now their magnificent red wine Malleolus de Valderramiro 2021.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is among the wineries that have most contributed to showcasing the excellence of Ribera del Duero wines beyond our borders. It is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly regarded worldwide; in fact, it was recently nominated for the Best European Winery award by the influential American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast,’ which recognized it as the best in Spain. Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, it is currently led by Javier Moro (president), heir to the love for wine of his grandfather and father, both named Emilio.
This Valladolid-based winery has always been committed to producing wines deeply connected to their terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them personality. It owns nearly 400 hectares of its own vineyards, planted and grafted with a clone of tempranillo recovered from its oldest vines, which undoubtedly provides fruits of extraordinary quality, with great color, character, and nuances. Among the most emblematic plots of the winery are Resalso (planted in 1933, the year Emilio Moro, father of the current owners, was born); Valderramiro, with the oldest vines of the winery and the cradle of the great wine Malleolus de Valderramiro; Sanchomartín and Camino Viejo, from which the red wine Malleolus is born.
In 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, for the first time, outside Ribera del Duero, under the Bierzo designation of origin, where they have three labels. Since 2023, they have owned a winery in the area. Currently, they have over 60 hectares dedicated to the godello grape.
