General Information

Malleolus 2023 is one of the great wines from Emilio Moro, a winery with international prestige whose references are among the essentials of Ribera del Duero. Harvest after harvest, Malleolus is rated above 90 points by the most influential wine magazines in the world. Malleolus 2023 is a single-varietal wine made from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes, sourced from a vineyard located in Pesquera de Duero, with clay-limestone-stony soil. It macerated with the skins for several days, and malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, it aged in French oak barrels until bottling.

Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Emilio Moro represents the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly rated worldwide.

Bodegas Emilio Moro is committed to producing wines closely connected to the terroir, convinced that it is the soil that provides personality. Their wines are marketed outside the traditional categories (Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva), opting for greater freedom and giving each wine variable aging depending on the characteristics of the harvest.

Creators' opinion

The word "Malleolus" comes from Latin and means majuelo, which is the term used to refer to vineyards in Pesquera de Duero. For the production of this wine, we have selected grapes from old majuelos, trained in bush and trellis systems.

The winery

Bodegas Emilio Moro

Bodegas Emilio Moro is among the wineries that have most contributed to showcasing the excellence of Ribera del Duero wines beyond our borders. It is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly regarded worldwide; in fact, it was recently nominated for the Best European Winery award by the influential American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast,’ which recognized it as the best in Spain. Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, it is currently led by Javier Moro (president), heir to the love for wine of his grandfather and father, both named Emilio.

This Valladolid-based winery has always been committed to producing wines deeply connected to their terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them personality. It owns nearly 400 hectares of its own vineyards, planted and grafted with a clone of tempranillo recovered from its oldest vines, which undoubtedly provides fruits of extraordinary quality, with great color, character, and nuances. Among the most emblematic plots of the winery are Resalso (planted in 1933, the year Emilio Moro, father of the current owners, was born); Valderramiro, with the oldest vines of the winery and the cradle of the great wine Malleolus de Valderramiro; Sanchomartín and Camino Viejo, from which the red wine Malleolus is born.

In 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, for the first time, outside Ribera del Duero, under the Bierzo designation of origin, where they have three labels. Since 2023, they have owned a winery in the area. Currently, they have over 60 hectares dedicated to the godello grape.
