Malleolus 2022 is one of the great wines from Emilio Moro, a winery with international prestige and whose references are among the essentials of Ribera del Duero. Harvest after harvest, Malleolus is rated above 90 points by the most influential wine magazines in the world. Malleolus 2022 is a single-varietal red wine (tempranillo) from a vineyard located in Pesquera de Duero, with clay-limestone-stony soil. It spent several days macerating with the skins, and the malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, it aged in French oak barrels until bottling.
Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera de Duero, Bodegas Emilio Moro is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly valued worldwide.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is committed to producing wines closely tied to the terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them their personality. Their wines are marketed outside the traditional categories (Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva), opting for greater freedom and giving each wine a variable aging process depending on the characteristics of the harvest.
Malleolus displays a deep cherry red color. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruits along with balsamic notes of cedar and tobacco. Over time, it expresses its intensity and complexity, developing hints of spices like clove, without losing its fruity character. On the palate, it is powerful, structured, and intense, with great balance and a smooth yet intense finish.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is among the wineries that have most contributed to showcasing the excellence of Ribera del Duero wines beyond our borders. It is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly regarded worldwide; in fact, it was recently nominated for the Best European Winery award by the influential American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast,’ which recognized it as the best in Spain. Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, it is currently led by Javier Moro (president), heir to the love for wine of his grandfather and father, both named Emilio.
This Valladolid-based winery has always been committed to producing wines deeply connected to their terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them personality. It owns nearly 400 hectares of its own vineyards, planted and grafted with a clone of tempranillo recovered from its oldest vines, which undoubtedly provides fruits of extraordinary quality, with great color, character, and nuances. Among the most emblematic plots of the winery are Resalso (planted in 1933, the year Emilio Moro, father of the current owners, was born); Valderramiro, with the oldest vines of the winery and the cradle of the great wine Malleolus de Valderramiro; Sanchomartín and Camino Viejo, from which the red wine Malleolus is born.
In 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, for the first time, outside Ribera del Duero, under the Bierzo designation of origin, where they have three labels. Since 2023, they have owned a winery in the area. Currently, they have over 60 hectares dedicated to the godello grape.
