Laderas de Cabama 2023 responds with ease to the demands of a difficult vintage. It will surprise you with its patient and precise making: manual harvest, fermentation in concrete, 12 months in French oak and final maturation in a tank. A wine with a serene character, that is worth far more than it costs.
Laderas de Cabama 2023 stems from a demanding harvest that was very well managed. This wine was produced from a careful selection of Tempranillo grapes, hand-picked on 23 and 24 September after a drought-affected campaign, sourced from a vineyard grown organically.
The vinification took place in a cement tank, where it underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation in February. It then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels and returned for 5 months to cement for natural stabilization, without fining. A precise journey, designed to respect the grape material as much as possible.
The winery itself sums up the spirit of this vintage well: “It is in difficult years that a winery is forged.” And Laderas de Cabama 2023 fits squarely into that idea, as a wine built on patience, technical control and the will to let the vintage speak for itself. Behind it lies the signature of one of Rioja's most promising bodegas, Valenciso, part of the prestigious association Grandes Pagos de España.
Consumption features
Pairing
Laderas de Cabama 2023 accompanies perfectly dishes with character such as Riojana potatoes or a roasted beef fillet. It also pairs beautifully with cured cheeses and Iberian cured meats, where its refined profile and its time in oak barrels find a great ally in intense, savoury flavours.
Laderas de Cabama 2023 faced a very long and staggered harvest, marked by the heavy rains of June and the early September DANA, which forced us to take extreme care of the grapes to avoid botrytis and achieve their proper integration in the winery. The harvest was carried out manually on 23 and 24 September.
Winemaking
Fermented and vinified in a cement vat, where it also undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation in February, in a process that favour a purer expression of the fruit and the wine's natural evolution in the winery.
Aging
Laderas de Cabama 2023 was aged for 12 months in a French oak barrel and, afterwards, spent 5 months in a cement tank for natural stabilisation, without clarification.
Vineyard
Description
Laderas de Cabama 2023 was born from a year that was predominantly dry, except for June, very stormy, setting the pace for a long and staged harvest, designed to avoid botrytis and favour the integration of water in the grape. Manual picking took place on the 23rd and 24th of September, in a vintage conditioned by the high temperatures in August and the DANA at the start of September, which demanded maximum attention to preserve the quality of the fruit.
Climate
Laderas de Cabama 2023 comes from a demanding climate, with sporadic rains and high temperatures that led to a long, staggered harvest, designed to avoid botrytis and to achieve a perfect integration of water into the grape.
Viticulture
In Laderas de Cabama 2023, the winery opted for very precise work in the vineyard and for a long, staged manual harvest, adapted to a year particularly difficult due to the heat, heavy rains and the risk of botrytis. That control at the moment of picking allowed waiting for the proper integration of water in the grape and to reach harvest with the fruit in the best possible condition.
