Joseph Drouhin Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons is a bright straw-yellow wine with greenish reflections.
On the nose, it is mineral, displaying aromas of wildflowers and white fruits, citrus (lemon zest), and marine and iodine nuances.
On the palate, it is tense, very fresh, mineral, citrusy, and slightly salty, with a long persistence.
The Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded to manage wine trading, but it soon transformed into one of the great winemaking and producing houses of Burgundy.
It all began in 1880, when the young Joseph Drouhin moved from Chablis, where he was born and raised, to Beaune and purchased a trading house. His son Maurice inherited what would become the winery in 1918 and acquired the first lands, located in the famous and coveted parcels Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. In 1957, the third generation arrived with Maurice's adoptive son, Robert, who took over the Maison, giving the winery its current international stature. Since 2003, the firm has been managed by Robert Drouhin's four children: Laurent Drouhin, brand ambassador and director of the U.S. market; Frédéric Drouhin, executive president; Philippe Drouhin, in charge of the vineyards; and Véronique Drouhin, the winemaker.
The winery produces in almost 90 appellations and owns 78 hectares, mostly cultivated following biodynamic principles. Thanks to this, their wines offer a spectacular aromatic palette from the best terroirs of Burgundy.
In the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Drouhin winery owns 36 hectares of parcels located in the most renowned vineyards in the heart of Bourgogne: 0.23 hectares in the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares, 0.13 hectares in the Grand Cru Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, 0.60 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses, 2 parcels of 0.91 hectares in the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, 0.46 hectares in Échézeaux Grand Cru, 0.48 hectares in Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru, and 13 hectares of the prestigious Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches, cultivated with pinot noir and chardonnay, a rarity in Bourgogne.
