General Information
Hito 2024 is a Ribera del Duero produced by Bodegas Cepa 21; a single-varietal Tempranillo that reflects the freshness and dynamism of this D.O.'s young wines without sacrificing the great backbone that characterises the region’s reds. Grown in high-altitude vineyards in the Castrillo de Duero area, this red wine is vinified with great precision to preserve the fruitiness of the variety and has been lightly aged in barrels to add subtle nuances without masking its verve. Supple on the palate, with smooth tannins and well-integrated acidity, it's highly drinkable but equally authentic. Hito makes a great introduction to the style of this winery, which does a modern take on Tempranillo, but respecting the terroir and identity of Ribera del Duero.
Azpilicueta Reserva 2020 is a classic blend of Tempranillo with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo, grown on the rugged slopes of Fuenmayor, in Rioja Alta. It was fermented for 20 to 30 days at high temperatures, followed by 16 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels with different degrees of toasting to enhance the nuances of each variety. Following a further 20 months in the bottle, the result is a serious and balanced wine with notes of ripe fruit, sweet spices and a slightly balsamic finish. Founded by Félix Azpilicueta in 1881, the winery now combines tradition and sustainability in modern facilities that respect natural processes, such as the use of gravity in the winemaking process. This Reserva is a tribute to the history of Rioja, with a polished and persistent expression.
