Bodegas Habla not only spearheaded the renewal of winemaking in the Extremadura region but is at the cutting-edge of the entire Spanish wine sector. It’s been winning over consumers with its quality, and is also one of the firms that takes most care over design and the aesthetic side. Habla Solum 2023 is the latest release of a wine that Vinoselección sells exclusively on the Spanish market. It combines the national Tempranillo variety with the international Syrah, and has been lightly oaked to mature it to perfection.

General Information

Habla has blazed the trail for quality winegrowing in Extremadura, putting an end to the dubious reputation of the area’s wines. Its recipe: major technological investments in the vineyard, studying and selecting plots and varieties, and ultramodern winemaking techniques. Enjoy the latest vintage of a red that you’ll only find at Vinoselección: Habla Solum 2023.

This wine is a 50%–50% blend of local Tempranillo and international Syrah grapes, aged for 4 months in oak barrels. Like the rest of the firm’s wines, it was supervised by the team of advisors led by the prestigious Bordeaux oenologist Florent Dumeau. It exhibits clean varietal aromas, youth, lots of fruit and balsamic and floral hints.

Founded in 2001, Habla is the winery that has earned prestige for Extremadura-made wine. Its modern facilities and vineyards – 200 hectares – are located on an estate in Trujillo (Cáceres). Here, the unfertile shallow  slate and granite soils and the continental climate are conducive to optimal ripening of the grapes and limited yields.

Bodegas Habla has introduced several innovations in the region, both in viticulture  and in winemaking. For example, it has introduced cover crops in vineyard alleyways to counteract erosion and nutritional impoverishment and prevent the environmental impact of herbicides and tractors’ CO2 emissions. It furthermore pursues a shade management policy: training the plants on espaliers creates walls of shade, guaranteeing cooler ripening conditions.

When it comes to winemaking practices, the firm favours minimal intervention to ensure a style of wine shaped by local factors and varietal character enhanced by French oak. This is how they create wines full of personality and authentic flavours that are easy to drink and come in bottles notable for their original appearance.

The red wine Habla Solum 2023 is great with char-grilled Ibérico pork and Ibérico pork deli meats.

Like the rest of the firm’s wines, it’s supervised by the team of advisers headed by prestigious winemaker Florent Dumeau of Bordeaux. It displays varietal flavours and is youthful and very fruity with balsamic and floral hints.

Winemaker

Habla is one of the most advanced wineries in our country, responsible for elevating the wines of Extremadura to the highest level and erasing at a stroke the dubious reputation of the wines from this region. Its modern facilities and vineyard (200 hectares divided into plots) are located on an estate in the town of Trujillo, with shallow soils composed of slate and granite, good texture, and low fertility, which, together with the continental climate, favor optimal ripening and limited yields.

Bodegas Habla has introduced various innovations in the region both in the vineyard, where it is committed to ecological practices, and in winemaking. For instance, in the vineyard, it has implemented cover crops between the cultivation rows to control erosion, prevent nutritional depletion, and avoid the environmental impact of herbicides and CO2 emissions from tractors; it also employs the shade policy: arranging vegetation on the trellises in a shaded manner, ensuring slightly cooler ripening conditions and addressing the issue of excessive warmth. Additionally, it follows very strict traceability for each of the plots.

As for winemaking, it is committed to minimal intervention, allowing the typicity of the region, the character of the grape varieties, and the complement of French oak to define the style. This way, they create wines of excellent character and typicity, easy to drink, and notable for their original aesthetics.
