Bodegas Vetus located in the area of Segovia, at an altitude between 810 and 930 meters above sea level, found a handful of micro-parcels with very sandy soils, planted with old Verdejo vines. From these, they manually selected the best fruits to produce Flor de Vetus Verdejo 2024. Once in the winery, after destemming and crushing, fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks.
Integrated by three other prominent wineries, Izadi and Orben (D.O.Ca. Rioja) and Finca Villacreces (D.O. Ribera del Duero), the Grupo Artevino is also the owner of Vetus, one of the most interesting brands of the D.O. Toro (its facilities are located in the Zamora town of Villabuena del Puente), although it produces the white wine Flor de Vetus Verdejo 2024 that we bring you under the protection of the D.O. Rueda. Both this single-varietal white and the rest of the house's wines are the result of an extremely careful production process, from the field to the glass.
Bright yellow, shiny with greenish tones. High aromatic intensity, with freshness on the nose with floral notes. On the palate, it stands out for its citrus notes and balanced acidity, which gives us a pleasant persistence.
Bodegas Vetus (2003) is the project of the Antón family (Grupo Artevino) in the D.O. Toro. For its development, they acquired an estate in the heart of the denomination. This estate currently houses modern winery facilities inaugurated in 2008 and 20 hectares of vineyards divided into 3 plots with vines of different ages and planting patterns.
Vetus applies precision and environmentally respectful viticulture, with meticulous care of the vines. The tinta de Toro grape is the star of the vineyard, cultivated in trellis and limited to low yields of around 4,000 kg per hectare in favor of quality. The vines are located on slopes with sandy-loam soils and benefit from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between night and day during the ripening period, which helps produce wines with greater intensity of color and aromas.
The wines of Vetus aim for greater friendliness and balance than traditional reds from Toro. Additionally, the winery produces a white wine under the umbrella of the D.O. Rueda.
