General Information

Finca Comabarra 2020 is a magnificent red wine crafted by Tomàs Cusiné in El Vilosell (D.O. Costers del Segre). This wine is born from the blend of garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah varieties from a unique and singular plot in Finca Comabarra, located over 700 meters above sea level on limestone soils with a loamy structure with gravel and clay. With utmost respect and minimal intervention, but using biodynamic practices, Tomàs Cusiné aims to achieve, as in this case, elegant, complex wines with freshness and longevity.

The winery Tomàs Cusiné was founded in 2003 with the goal of producing wines with personality that represent the territory, maximizing the expertise and experience of the winemaker Tomàs Cusiné over the D.O. Costers del Segre. In recent years, the winery has been meticulously caring for the vineyard and working on precision enology. Tomàs Cusiné has 30 hectares of his own vineyard, which is managed in an ecological, sustainable way and under biodynamic principles.

Under this philosophy based on environmentally respectful agriculture, Finca Comabarra is crafted, a wine framed within the D.O. Costers del Segre. To produce it, the three varieties are harvested and fermented separately in small tanks. Then, the malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and once completed, the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels for a maximum aging of about 14 months, where it will refine and acquire those well-defined aromas. With a limited production of 4000 bottles, Finca Comabarra 2020 pairs well with cold cuts, roasts, meat rice dishes, steak tartar, and cured cheeses.

Tasting notes

Finca Comabarra displays a cherry red color with a garnet rim, clean and bright.

Complex, intense, and clean on the nose, with aromas of ripe black fruit, menthol, balsamic, pastry, and hints of slate, clove, and tobacco.

On the palate, it is smooth, glyceric, and pleasant, with good acidity and great body, tones of nuts, coffee, chocolate, and notes of green tea. Small and sweet tannins that make it very pleasant and with a long and elegant aftertaste.

The winery

This boutique winery is the first independent project of Tomàs Cusiné in the village of El Vilosell. In 2003, after gaining the necessary experience in wineries such as Castell del Remei and Cérvoles, the winemaker decided to embark on his own wine adventure in the region of Les Garrigues.

The purpose of this winery is to craft characterful wines that represent the expression of the territory, leveraging Tomàs Cusiné's knowledge of the D.O. Costers del Segre. In recent years, the winery has been prioritizing vineyard work and precision winemaking.

Currently, it produces wines under the denominations of origin Costers del Segre, Conca de Barberà, and Monsant.

This winery has 30 hectares of vineyards, which are managed organically and sustainably. In addition to its own vineyards, there are another 70 hectares from associated winegrowers in the same area.

As a winemaker, Tomàs Cusiné demonstrates his mastery in wine blending and is recognized as an expert in this field, with over 30 harvests of experience. In short, he is one of the most renowned winemakers on the current scene, with a total production of 1,200,000 bottles, half of which are exported to more than 40 countries worldwide.
