Fifteen generations of a family behind a winery whose origins date back to the 16th century. A legacy of work and passion that the Valdelana family wants to reflect in this wine range. Familia Valdelana Reserva 2020 is a Tempranillo with a touch of Graciano, a variety that complements the former very well, producing wines with greater aging potential. A red wine with prestige, born from old vines (60 years) located in Rioja Alavesa, the family's homeland.

General Information

The Valdelana family represents, like few others, the love for the vineyard and a territory: Elciego (Rioja Alavesa), where generation after generation they have managed to gather a very valuable viticultural heritage. Familia Valdelana Reserva 2020 is made with Tempranillo and a touch of Graciano, an indigenous variety from Rioja that perfectly complements Tempranillo and enhances the wine's longevity.

The vines that supply it are 60 years old and are hand-harvested. They are grown in clay-limestone soils and are bathed by a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. The wine is aged for 24 months in barrels (50% French oak and 50% American oak).

Bodegas Valdelana boasts beautiful palace-like facilities within the village of Elciego. Inside, they house two underground museums located in 15th-century cellars: one dedicated to the history of civilizations and the other to wine; as well as rural accommodation within the same building as the Winery Museum. This approach has earned them the award for Best Winery in Art and Culture on two occasions.

As for the vineyard - the true treasure of the company - it owns 128 hectares of vines and oversees another 50 hectares. With these, they produce around 1 million bottles annually of elegant wines that could be categorized within a renewed classic style.

Familia Valdelana Reserva 2020 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs wonderfully with a meat stew with vegetables and a brothy rice with rabbit.

The winery

Bodegas Valdelana
The family of passionate winegrowers Valdelana represents like few others the love for a territory: Elciego (Rioja Alavesa), where the passing of years has allowed them to gather a highly valuable viticultural heritage that provides excellent raw material. 14 generations behind a winery whose origin dates back to the 16th century, a legacy of work and passion they aim to reflect in their “Familia” range. Juan Jesús Valdelana (13th generation) is the current manager and technical director of the winery.

The beautiful facilities of Bodegas Valdelana, with a palatial air and renovated in 2007, are located in the town of Elciego. The winery owns 128 ha of its own vineyards and oversees another 50 ha; with these grapes, it produces around 1 million bottles annually, of which 60% are destined for the international market. These are wines that Juan Jesús Valdelana defines as “elegant and sumptuous,” in a style we could describe as classic yet modernized. Bodegas Valdelana is also characterized by its strong commitment to art; in fact, it has been awarded for the second time as the best Winery in Art and Culture. It features two underground museums located in 15th-century cellars: one dedicated to the history of civilizations and another to wine; and rural accommodation located in the building of the Winery Museum.
