General Information

The vineyards cultivated on limestone soil in the Côte des Bar ensure the quality of Drappier Coteaux Champenois Urville Rouge, a wine made entirely from the elegant pinot noir variety, in the style of Burgundy reds. For the production of this red wine, Drappier decided to blend a combination of different vintages to achieve the ideal organoleptic qualities and perfect balance.

To mention the house Drappier is to speak of excellence, within a natural and authentic approach. It is one of the most important wineries in the southern Champagne region. Although it was founded in 1808, its origins date back to vineyards cultivated in 1152 by the monk Saint Bernard, who built an annex to the Clairvaux Abbey in the French town of Urville to serve as a winery. Today, led by Michel Drappier, the winery thrives with the pinot noir grape variety, offering wines and champagnes of superior elegance.

Backed by an extraordinary terroir, this red wine from the A.O.C. Coteaux Champenois exhibits remarkable acidity and a subtlety that surprises on the palate. With these qualities, Drappier Urville Rouge is ideal for pairing with pork, oily fish, seafood, and soft, creamy cheeses.

Tasting notes

Complex and elegant nose where aromas of red fruits unfold, along with notes of different fruits such as vineyard peach, on a calcareous mineral background.

On the palate, it is clean, light, and fresh. Its well-balanced acidity and calcareous sensations stand out, with fantastic verticality and great subtlety in its passage.

The winery

Settled in the commune of Urville, Champagne Drappier is one of the most prestigious wineries in the southern part of the Champagne region. Despite being founded in 1808, the first plantations of its vineyard date back to the Gallo-Roman era, 2000 years ago, and its cellars were built in 1152 by Saint Bernard, founder of the Clairvaux Abbey.

Currently, Champagne Drappier owns 55 hectares of vineyards and oversees another 50 thanks to agreements with local winegrowers. The dominant grape variety in the cultivation is pinot noir. It is precisely the use of this variety that is the main hallmark of the house, along with a winemaking process that emphasizes minimal dosage. The small amount of liqueur d'expédition used in their champagnes is typically a wine aged in barrels for over 10 years, which adds complexity and length. The result is a well-defined style distinguished by authenticity and the pursuit of natural qualities.
