Originating from the Cistercian heritage of the 12th century, the Drappier family has been producing champagnes since the early 19th century with a high percentage of the magnificent pinot noir grape in their ‘coupages’. This is the case of Drappier Carte d'Or, almost a Blanc de Noirs, aromatic, elegant, with good structure and a characteristic touch of quince paste. Winner of the 2024 Gold Medal at The Drink Business.

General Information

Drappier Carte d'Or is a delicious champagne featuring the three classic varieties of this sparkling wine, with a notable prominence of pinot noir, which contributes 80% of the blend. It also includes 15% chardonnay and 5% pinot meunier. The vines grow in chalky soils.

It is made only from the must of the first pressing (the cuvée), using gravity to avoid racking and oxidation. Natural settling and alcoholic fermentation lasting about 2 weeks at low temperature. Subsequently, natural and complete malolactic fermentation developed. Unfiltered and minimal use of sulfur. 5% of the wines are aged in fudre for 1 year to enrich the 'cuvée'. The result is a champagne that won the Gold Medal at The Drink Business.

Champagne Drappier is a winery run by the same family since 1808. Their vineyard is their great treasure: 100 hectares that the family has selected over generations among the best-exposed and extremely chalky plots, mostly located around Urville, in the heart of the Côte des Bar. Here, the pinot noir grape finds the best habitat to express itself and produce very elegant aromatic wines.

Drappier Carte d'Or (A.O.C. Champagne) is ideal to pair with salt-baked sea bass or a good Iberian acorn-fed ham.

The winery

Settled in the commune of Urville, Champagne Drappier is one of the most prestigious wineries in the southern part of the Champagne region. Despite being founded in 1808, the first plantations of its vineyard date back to the Gallo-Roman era, 2000 years ago, and its cellars were built in 1152 by Saint Bernard, founder of the Clairvaux Abbey.

Currently, Champagne Drappier owns 55 hectares of vineyards and oversees another 50 thanks to agreements with local winegrowers. The dominant grape variety in the cultivation is pinot noir. It is precisely the use of this variety that is the main hallmark of the house, along with a winemaking process that emphasizes minimal dosage. The small amount of liqueur d'expédition used in their champagnes is typically a wine aged in barrels for over 10 years, which adds complexity and length. The result is a well-defined style distinguished by authenticity and the pursuit of natural qualities.
