General Information

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2019 is the result of a thoughtful blend of tempranillo and garnacha grapes cultivated in the Sierra de Yerga. It comes from an Excellent vintage in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, something that had not occurred since 2011. A vintage marked by drought, but due to its characteristics, it was known to be memorable since the summer.

After a traditional winemaking process, the wine underwent aging for over 3 years between barrel and bottle. Bodegas Ontañón has used French and American oak barrels on this occasion to achieve a wide aromatic range and the greatest possible balance.

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2019 is made from grapes sourced from some of the most representative vineyards of Ontañón Familia: Viña María, La Pasada, and Los Palos de Tanis. These vineyards, located in the Sierra de Yerga—a privileged corner of Rioja Oriental with loamy and very stony soils—began to be planted in the early 1990s. They are situated at altitudes ranging between 680 and 800 meters, distributed across different orographic profiles.

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2019 is perfect to pair with a magret of duck, for example.

The winery

Bodegas Ontañón
The fourth generation of the Pérez Cuevas family continues, day by day, the tradition of viticulture in Rioja Oriental. Gabriel Pérez inherited the vineyards from the lands of his ancestors on the outskirts of the town of Quel, on the high slopes of the Sierra de Yerga. When Gabriel took the reins in the early 70s, he began producing wine from those vineyards instead of selling his grapes as had been done until then. He was determined to create a wine that embodied the region of Quel, where his family had deep roots and where he knew wines of great quality were born. Since then, Ontañón has been committed to the vineyards of these unique terroirs. Over the years, Bodegas Ontañón has expanded its expertise to iconic denominations such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Navarra.
