General Information

Domino de La Abadesa Reserva 2017 is a delicious blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha from a vintage rated Very Good by the regulatory board of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. This vintage was marked by the harsh April frost and drought but produced highly satisfactory results. The excellent health of the vines throughout the vegetative cycle and the complete absence of pests was one of the main characteristics of a harvest that began on 10 August, the earliest in the history of Rioja.

According to the traditional process, the wine was aged for more than three years in both barrel and bottle. It displays a very deep, cherry-red colour with an orangey rim, and notes of ripe red fruit in the nose with touches of tobacco and liquorice. Round, complex and elegant on the palate.

Bodegas Ontañón dates back to the early 1970s, when Gabriel Pérez inherited some vines outside Quel and decided to make his own wine. Since then Ontañón has focused on vineyards in this unique terroirs and has expanded into iconic Denominaciones such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Navarra. Bodegas Ontañón owns 250 hectares of vineyards in Rioja Oriental.

Domino de La Abadesa Reserva 2017 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with roast leg of lamb with roast potatoes.

The winery

Bodegas Ontañón
The fourth generation of the Pérez Cuevas family continues, day by day, the tradition of viticulture in Rioja Oriental. Gabriel Pérez inherited the vineyards from the lands of his ancestors on the outskirts of the town of Quel, on the high slopes of the Sierra de Yerga. When Gabriel took the reins in the early 70s, he began producing wine from those vineyards instead of selling his grapes as had been done until then. He was determined to create a wine that embodied the region of Quel, where his family had deep roots and where he knew wines of great quality were born. Since then, Ontañón has been committed to the vineyards of these unique terroirs. Over the years, Bodegas Ontañón has expanded its expertise to iconic denominations such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Navarra.
