Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2022 is the Ribera del Duero Tempranillo as seen by the Ontañón family, a true institution in Rioja. In addition it is exclusive, you won’t find it anywhere else!

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2022 is produced exclusively for Vinoselección by the winery owned by the Riojan Ontañón family in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. It is made 100% Tempranillo, and offers an elegant, serious and very refined style.

The grapes come from old vines situated above 900 metres on clay soils, which help to mark its character. That altitude, together with the diurnal temperature changes between day and night, lengthens the ripening and concentrates colour, tannin and structure. Afterwards, it rests 24 months in American and French oak barrels, with medium toast and fine grain, and completes at least 12 months in bottle.

Behind it is Rippa Dorii, the Ontañón family winery in Fuentecén, a house that has managed to bring its experience to Ribera del Duero with a clear idea: wines with personality, without ostentation and with a lot of identity. Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2022 sums up very well that way of understanding wine.

Vineyard

Description

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2022 is made from selected grapes from old vines situated above 900 metres in altitude, on clay soils that favour wines with a higher polyphenolic load and a firm expression. The climate, with marked day–night temperature differences in summer, slows ripening and imparts a notable concentration of colour and tannin.

Climate

The air is fresh and dry. The altitude, above 900 metres, sets the pace for the vineyard. The strong temperature differences between day and night in summer lengthen ripening and promote a high concentration of colour and tannin.

Viticulture

Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva 2022 derives from old vines of Tempranillo selected at over 900 metres above sea level, where the winery aims to express the vineyard's more elegant and structured character. Viticulture relies on respect for tradition and a careful selection of the grape, grown on clay soils that promote slower ripening and greater concentration. It is hands-on viticulture focused on quality and the natural balance of the vine.

Tasting notes

View

Intense cherry red colour with good depth, clean and bright.

Nose

Complex on the nose, it releases intense notes of ripe fruit, well blended with spicy, mineral and balsamic notes. The ageing adds a clean and elegant backdrop, and reinforces a broad, balanced and persistent aromatic impression.

Mouth

It has a mouthfeel that is enveloping and rounded, supported by mature and well-integrated tannins. The structure carries through naturally, while the ageing adds depth and a long, persistent finish that prolongs its sensations.

The winery

Bodegas Rippa Dorii

Ontañón is a historic Spanish wine brand. Forged in the 1980s by the Pérez Cuevas family, it represents the passion of small artisan winemakers. Today, led by the fifth generation of the family, it is a rejuvenated and thriving brand with a strong presence in the national market. This family is also the creator of Bodegas Queirón in Rioja Oriental, a winery focused on meticulously crafted small productions. Additionally, they have expanded their activities to other denominations such as Ribera del Duero, where they oversee the ambitious project Rippa Dorii, previously known as Altos de Ontañón.

Rippa Dorii – which means Ribera del Duero in Latin – is based in Fuentecén (Burgos). It works with over 300 hectares of vineyards, some of which are located in the province of Soria, and its wines are characterized by a balance between fruit and oak.
