Complex, persistent, and full of deep nuances, Coma Blanca 2019 is one of the most appreciated white wines from Priorat and the jewel of Mas d’en Gil, the winery that produces it. Its fermentation and aging in barrels give it an interesting aging potential. Limited production.
Coma Blanca 2019 is the most special white wine from Mas d’en Gil and one of the most renowned wines in this category from the D.O.Q. Priorat. It originates from what is probably the most heterogeneous terroir of the winery’s estate, located at 350 meters above sea level in the Bellmunt area. This is a plot with soils of the typical licorella, river pebbles, and sands, surrounded by pine forests and wild areas, and planted with white garnacha and macabeo vines, between 1941 and 1945.
The fruits of this unique enclave were traditionally crafted, with controlled fermentation at low temperature in barrels, aging for 6 months in French oak and an additional 24 months in the bottle. The result is a magnificent white coupage from Priorat to be enjoyed right after the reds, and which, due to its characteristics, reaches its most interesting moment starting from its fourth year.
Mas d’en Gil is the winery owned by the Rovira Carbonell family in the southern area of the D.O.Q. Priorat, one of the current meccas of the wine world. From its spectacular estate, located among five valleys, where they also cultivate olive trees, almond trees, and hazelnut trees, the family fulfills the dream of producing complex, persistent, and mature wines that faithfully represent this privileged winemaking region. Coma Blanca 2019 is undoubtedly one of them. Enjoy it with grilled lobster and prawns; grilled white fish such as sole, sea bass, or gilthead bream; roasted chicken in cocotte; or creamy cheeses like torta del Casar.
