General Information

Clos del Portal Negre de Negres 2022 is a red wine from the Clos del Portal estate, located between El Lloar and Bellmunt in the heart of the Priorat, at an altitude of 450-500 meters. The vines, aged between 20 and 65 years, are cultivated on 'licorella' slate soils with a Mediterranean orientation and optimal sun exposure. The garnacha, cariñena, and syrah grape varieties that make up its blend are grown following the principles of organic viticulture.

The harvest is carried out manually between the second week of September and the second week of October. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The wine ages for 12 to 15 months in foudres and large French oak barrels, respecting the expression of the terroir to the fullest.

Portal del Priorat was founded in 2001 by architect Alfredo Arribas, who decided to restore ancient terraces and slopes in the Priorat. With a philosophy based on respect for nature and organic viticulture, the winery has established itself as a benchmark for the new generation of Priorat wines. Alfredo Arribas, along with winemaker Joan Asens, leads this project that seeks elegance and authenticity in every bottle.

As for pairing, Clos del Portal Negre de Negres 2022 is ideal to accompany red meats, game, rustic rice dishes, stews with sauce, and aged cheeses. Its structure and freshness make it versatile and perfect for intense and flavorful dishes.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Portal del Priorat is the wine project of Barcelona architect Alfredo Arribas in the DOQ Priorat, launched in 2001 with the recovery of the Clos del Portal estate, located between the municipalities of El Lloar and Bellmunt del Priorat. From the outset, the winery has been conceived as a living space where architecture, landscape and wine constantly interact, resulting in a contemporary and deeply personal interpretation of Priorat.

The Clos del Portal estate covers around 40 hectares, of which approximately 14 are planted with vines, surrounded by Mediterranean forest, olive trees and old mining terraces on the characteristic llicorella soils of Priorat. The main grape varieties are Garnacha and Cariñena, complemented by Syrah, Cabernet Franc and small experimental plots. Viticulture is based on organic and biodynamic practices, with very low yields and a strong focus on expressing the identity of the landscape.

Arribas’ vision as an architect deeply shapes the project: the layout of the vineyards, the design of the winemaking spaces and the relationship between building and environment all follow a logic of full integration. This approach has led to defining Portal del Priorat as a “winery without limits”, where the creative process and the experience of place are as important as the final wine.

In the winery, the philosophy focuses on minimal intervention, fermentations with indigenous yeasts and very restrained use of oak, seeking wines that express tension, freshness and minerality. The range includes estate wines such as Negre de Negres, Somni and the historic Tros de Clos, as well as the Gotes series, made from nearby vineyards and aimed at a fresher, more direct expression of Priorat.
