Decanter World Wine Awards

The Charpentier family winery is one of the flag bearers of pinot meunier in the A.O.C. Champagne. 95% of this red variety, with a small contribution of pinot noir, composes Champagne J. Charpentier Tradition Brut, their flagship. The result of a selection of their best crus from the Marne Valley, sustainably cultivated, this French sparkling wine was blended with reserve wines aged in vats for two years, after its malolactic fermentation. Awarded the Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2016.

Tasting notes

Champagne J. Charpentier Tradition Brut displays a pale golden color with fine and proportionate bubbles.

On the nose, it stands out for its freshness and aromas of slightly roasted and candied citrus fruits.

Magnificent, round, and versatile on the palate.

The winery

Champagne J. Charpentier is a family winery with a winemaking tradition that spans five generations. Although the estate's history dates back to the early 20th century, it was not until 1974, with the marriage of Jacky Charpentier and Claudine Claisse, that the brand was established in the town of Villers-sous-Châtillon, in the heart of the Marne Valley, 12 kilometers from Epernay.

The vineyards of Champagne J. Charpentier cover 15 hectares divided into a total of 38 plots across 9 communes, including Reuil, Binson-Orquigny, and Châtillon-sur-Marne. The main characteristic of the winery's cultivation is the predominance of red grape varieties, with the majority being pinot meunier and pinot noir, accounting for 80% of the surface. The rest is planted with the white chardonnay variety. The composition of the vineyard, cultivated according to sustainable viticulture practices, is reflected in the artisanal champagnes of the house, characterized by a fruity, light profile while maintaining aromatic complexity, body, and freshness.
