The name of the Champagne Drappier Grande Sendrée Rosé 2010 comes from a plot covered in ash (cendre in French) after the fire that burned the town of Urville in 1836. It is a reproduction of an 18th-century bottle found in the cellars of the French municipality. Inside, a sparkling rosé of utmost elegance where pinot noir brings great subtlety and vinosity, and chardonnay offers perfect balance. A very rich champagne with a pleasant persistence.

General Information

On a 'crayot' soil, the pinot noir grape exhibits excellent behavior, which is reflected in the Champagne Drappier Grande Sendrée Rosé 2010, a seductive sparkling rosé from the eponymous house that stands out for its sensational bouquet of raspberries, wild plums, and spices. This rosé de saignée, to which a small percentage of chardonnay grapes is added, is only vinified in exceptional vintages and comes from the best vines and the finest plots. The result is an extraordinary millésime, with character and personality, yet delightfully refined.

Champagne Drappier is one of the most remarkable wineries in the southern part of the Champagne region. Although it was officially founded in 1808, its origins date back to 1152, in vineyards cultivated by Saint Bernard, a monk and founder who built an annex to the Clairvaux Abbey in Urville. Today, the French house is globally acclaimed for the quality of its champagnes, highly coveted due to their limited production.

After bottling, the great Champagne Drappier Grande Sendrée Rosé 2010 (A.O.C. Champagne) is aged for over 6 years on lees, resulting in a complex sparkling wine ideal for all kinds of appetizers, pairing especially well with dishes such as saffron mussel cream, shrimp salad, or roasted leg of lamb.

Tasting notes

Clean and bright pink color, fine and persistent bubbles.

Complex nose that opens with notes of strawberry, raspberry, and violet, followed by toasted nuances. Round, flexible, and lively.

On the palate, hints of red fruits appear. It is fresh, complex, and with great persistence.

The winery

Settled in the commune of Urville, Champagne Drappier is one of the most prestigious wineries in the southern part of the Champagne region. Despite being founded in 1808, the first plantations of its vineyard date back to the Gallo-Roman era, 2000 years ago, and its cellars were built in 1152 by Saint Bernard, founder of the Clairvaux Abbey.

Currently, Champagne Drappier owns 55 hectares of vineyards and oversees another 50 thanks to agreements with local winegrowers. The dominant grape variety in the cultivation is pinot noir. It is precisely the use of this variety that is the main hallmark of the house, along with a winemaking process that emphasizes minimal dosage. The small amount of liqueur d'expédition used in their champagnes is typically a wine aged in barrels for over 10 years, which adds complexity and length. The result is a well-defined style distinguished by authenticity and the pursuit of natural qualities.
