The Devaux firm is a success story, a maison linked to the history of Champagne since the nineteenth century. Here’s introducing Champagne Devaux Blanc de Noirs Brut, made exclusively from the red Pinot Noir variety, as indicated by the ‘Blanc de Noirs’ in its name. It’s a highly recommendable Champagne that combines potency and roundness, as well as finesse and elegance.

Champagne Devaux Blanc de Noirs Brut is a fine, elegant Champagne from the magnificent terroir of the Côte des Bar. It’s made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes selected from plots farmed using environmentally friendly methods for the past 20 years. Its composition includes 25% of reserve wines and it’s been aged for at least two years.
The maison Devaux was founded in the nineteenth century by brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux, and was owned by the family until 1987, when Jean-Pol Auguste Devaux, who had no issue, handed over the firm to Laurent Gillet. The winery is based in the heart of the Côte des Bar and is a success story. In 2020 its chef de cave Michel Parisot was named sparkling winemaker of the year at the International Wine Challenge. It produces some 700,000 bottles per year in ‘boutique’ style and almost half are exported.
Champagne Devaux Blanc de Noirs Brut (A.O.C. Champagne) is perfect with all kinds of smoked salmon-based appetisers. As for pairing with meals, it’s also great with soupy lobster rice and baked fish such as seabream in a salt crust. And it’s equally fabulous with Mexican prawn tacos.
Attractive lemon-yellow with golden glints, very bright, good mousse and fine bead.
Elegant and intense nose with superb aromas of ripe white fruit together with notes of toasted nuts (hazelnuts) and touches of citrus peel (grapefruit), followed by excellent background notes of pain grille.
Flavoursome on the palate, very drinkable with a creamy mouthfeel from the perfectly integrated fizz. Lingering finish marked by the citrussy hints first detected in the nose.
