Champagne is the most famous sparkling wine in the world. We might even venture to say that it’s the best-known wine in the world, synonymous with the good life, celebrations and glamour. Champagne Baron de Marck Brut is made from the traditional blend of varieties used in these sparkling wines – Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay – and has been aged for at least two years in the firm’s underground cellars. The result is a Champagne with a fine, elegant nose, aromas of stone and dried fruit, smoky, toasty and nutty notes and a touch of pain grillé. Tasty, balanced and full on the attack, and mouth-coating and fresh on mid-palate.

General Information

Champagne Baron de Marck Brut is made from Pinot Noir (28–33%), Pinot Meunier (50.52%) and Chardonnay (17–20%), the three classical varieties used in these sparkling wines. Reserve wines (25%) are added to the blend to ensure regularity in the flavours and quality every year. This champagne was aged for at least two years in the firm’s cellars before being released for sale.

The maison JM Gobillard dates back to 1933. That year the farmer Gervais Gobillard set up on his own and acquired two hectares of vines in Hautvillers, just beside Épernay. On the basis of effort and determination, Gervais managed to gain a firm foothold and passed on his passion for wine to his son Jean-Marie. Gervais’s grandchildren are currently at the helm of the winery and have amassed 30 hectares of vineyards, besides being supplied by a further 125 hectares owned by other producers.

Champagne Baron de Marck Brut (A.O.C. Champagne) is ideal with baked white fish, grilled prawns or Ibérico ham.

Tasting notes

Deep golden-yellow. Complex, intense nose with prominent notes from ageing together with hints of stone and dried fruit and smoky and toasty notes that give way to hints of nuts and pain grillé.

Savoury, balanced and full on the attack with a nicely integrated fizz; mouth-coating and fresh on mid-palate and a long finish with a pleasant and elegant touch of bitterness.

The winery

Winery
The origin of the ‘maison’ JM Gobillard dates back to 1933. That year, the farmer Gervais Gobillard became independent and acquired two hectares of vines in Hautvillers, right next to Épernay. Through hard work and determination, Gervais managed to consolidate his business and pass on his passion for wine to his son Jean-Marie. Today, it is Gervais' grandchildren who have taken the reins of the winery and have managed to gather 30 hectares of vineyards, in addition to 125 hectares from other producers who sell them grapes.
