General Information

Cayuse En Cerise Syrah 2017 is a biodynamic red wine made from syrah grapes grown in a small terroir located in Walla Walla Valley, Washington (USA). Previously populated by cherry trees, this land spans 4 hectares with vines planted in 1998, cultivated on stony soils and following the principles of biodynamic viticulture.

The harvest of the syrah grapes that give rise to this red wine is carried out following the lunar calendar and, once in the winery, they ferment with native yeasts at controlled temperatures before resting in oak barrels. The result is a magnificent limited-production red wine that clearly expresses the minerality of the stony terroir from which it originates.

The young French-born winemaker Christophe Baron brought his personal project Cayuse Vineyards to life after discovering, several years ago, the stony soils present in the Walla Walla Valley -Washington-, and their resemblance to those of the renowned Chateauneuf du Pape region. Since then, the winemaker has been crafting exemplary wines with a French soul in this still little-known American wine region.

Tasting notes

Intense on the nose, where it reveals aromas of black fruits (blackberries, blueberries, cherries) and flowers such as violet and lavender. Spicy notes (pepper) and smoky hints appear over an earthy and mineral background.

On the palate, it is voluminous and fleshy, with good acidity and youthful tannins that suggest a good aging potential in the bottle. Long and attractive finish that lingers and brings back memories of cherry skin.
