Bodegas Can Ràfols Dels Caus was founded in 1979 and, since then, has been a benchmark in the Denomination of Origin Penedès. Just over a decade later, in 1990, the first vintage of this Caus Lubis 2004 was born. A single-variety merlot wine made from old vines that deliver excellent results, producing an elegant and long-lasting red wine from a plot that is currently cultivated using biodynamic viticulture methods.
Carlos Esteva, a great lover of Pomerol wines, was a pioneer in introducing merlot to these lands in 1981, two years after this winemaker and viticulturist founded the winery Can Ràfols Dels Caus. Today, it is one of the most unique wineries in Europe, standing out for its ability to produce very different wines within the same area.
This merlot from D.O. Penedès was hand-harvested and traditionally fermented for 21 days without the addition of any selected yeasts. It then underwent malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months in French oak barrels, finishing with a minimum of 8 years in the bottle before being marketed. All of this makes Caus Lubis 2004 a special wine, a high-quality merlot capable of delighting wine lovers. It is ideal to pair with red meat, game, stews, and aged cheeses.
Deep tile red color, clean and bright.
Medium intensity on the nose, presenting rich and complex aromas of fresh herbs, toasted and spicy notes characteristic of the macizo.
Aromatic on the palate, intense, warm, broad, and pure, with hints of ripe red fruit. A long-lasting wine with good persistence.
The Can Ràfols Dels Caus winery was founded in 1979 with the arrival of Carlos Esteva to his grandfather's estate of the same name. Esteva's arrival at the estate marked a revolution, as he regenerated the exploitation of its vineyards by introducing new varieties and cultivation methods aimed at achieving quality, giving the wines a unique character and the winery its own identity.
After several decades in the wine sector, Carlos Esteva continues to stand out for his extensive knowledge of the wine world. He has been nominated by the renowned Académie Internationale du vin. Additionally, he has created countless references at Can Ràfols Dels Caus and is involved in other projects such as Mas Oller in Empordà and Can Camps.
In a unique and singular environment, the wines of Can Ràfols Dels Caus are born in soils with a significant limestone mass located at the southernmost end of the Litoral mountain range, bordered by the Penedès plains and the Mediterranean Sea.
25 years after Carlos Esteva took the reins of Can Ràfols Dels Caus, he decided to build a new winery with the aim of improving operations, expanding qualitative potential, and continuing research.
Carlos Esteva seeks to produce great wines that express the nuances of their terroir. For him, exceptional wines have that something that goes beyond what we are capable of perceiving through the eyes, nose, and palate.
