These excellent reds for laying down are a tribute to one of the most famous people in the history of Rioja wine: Carlos Serres. He was a pioneer in exporting Spanish wine abroad in the late nineteenth century and one of the century-old wineries based in Haro’s station district – the most famous winemaking area in the country – is named after him. It’s an honour for us to be able to offer you these exclusive wines – Carlos Serres 5 Barricas Reserva 2019 and Carlos Serres 5 Barricas Gran Reserva 2017 – to celebrate Wine Day.
The winery brought back the ’5 Barricas’ brand exclusively for Vinoselección in 2020 and since then every wine produced with this name has been a success. The firm used to make wine under this label exclusively for its VIP customers from the contents of its 5 best barrels, hence its name (which means ‘5 barrels’ in Spanish). Now you can enjoy the Reserva and Gran Reserva version of the latest vintages.
Carlos Serres 5 Barricas Reserva 2019 (Excellent vintage) is a delicious single-varietal created from Tempranillo, which has been aged for a long 24 months in French and American oak barrels. 5 Barricas Gran Reserva 2017 is made from the classic Rioja blend: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. It’s also been aged for 24 months in oak but it’s been matured for nearly two years longer in the bottle – since being bottled in February 2021 – and is now beautifully smooth and at its best.

Following the success this label has enjoyed since 2020, we’re now offering you Carlos Serres 5 Barricas Gran Reserva 2017, the most sophisticated version. An exclusive red from a small but very high-quality vintage.
It's made from a blend of Tempranillo (mostly), Graciano and Mazuelo and has been aged for 24 months in French and American oak.
